US handicapped (DP) permit

Is a US handicapped (Disabled Person) tag valid in Belgium and the Netherlands?

I did a short search for the situation in the Netherlands and it seems you can use your USA card, but probably on the condition it shows the international wheelchair symbol. I sincerely hope this works for you.
Chances are the situation is the same in Belgium, but that's a guess.

You may find the following link useful for explaining what your permit allows, as the rules vary from country to country.

Provided your card clearly shows it is a handicap parking permit, preferably with the wheelchair symbol, and ID of the holder, and you follow the rules as set out above you shouldn't have a problem.

Super! Our tag does both the requirements. I note we may get free parking in Belgium, where we will have the car most of the time.

Thanks

Except on the coast where I've seen some paying parking for handicapped, which I find a shame.

What I know is that the handicapped tag is valid in all Europe - so if yours is valid in one country, it is surely valid in others.

Handicapped meters are common in our cities - why should they get a free ride when they already get priority parking?

Here in civilised Chester the nearest car parking to the centre is free and only for disabled. On sunny days I sit and talk with a one legged Royal Marine and a squaddy from the Mercian regiment amongst others whose injuries are a bit much to list here.
PalenQ would you swap your health and mobility for free parking?

'why should they get a free ride when they already get priority parking?'

Why indeed.

We should not spoil them.

For comparison, here in Georgia the handicapped have to pay to park, in Florida, no. I think it has something to do with the fact that more older people--and hence more handicapped people--live in Florida then in Georgia.

But whatever my views are on the justice of the exemption, we will take advantage of it.
