US Expats in France

I have been a Francophile since I can remember and I have always had a desire to move to France. Not sure where in France, but it calls to me. I would be moving by myself. I'm 43. Does anyone have any experience with such a situation?

You should read "C'est La Vie" An American woman begins a new life in Paris by Suzy Gershmann. She's the woman who writes the books "Born to Shop" and talks about moving to Paris when her husband dies. She tells about her ups and downs and about getting settled in Paris etc.

It might be helpful.

hi, 'pod,

this is such a problem with Brits feeling the pull to France that is has been reported that some areas are becoming swamped.

there was a radio interview recently with a Brit who is mayor of his local commune.

if you wish to get away from all other english speakers, you may find it difficult. if on the other hand, you are happy to see an english face every so often, you'll be in good company.

regards, ann

There are quite a few US expats here.

You can contact them through the English language forums - e.g.

http://www.americansintoulouse.com
http://www.americansinfrance.net

There are other anglophone forums focussing on different areas. A good list :

And http://www.escapeartist.com has lots of good advice for US "escapees".
