US Citizen Visiting Scotland & Ireland (Visa ?)

Good afternoon Fodor team!

i am a US Citizen travelling to Scotland & Ireland (June 15th 2025 - June 25th 2025).
Are there any visa requirements for a US Citizen to enter these countries?

When i google, it says - i don't need a visa.
But my Jetblue flight (from USA to Ediburg) sent a reminder saying that "You need to apply for an electronic travel authorization (ETA)" - do i need to apply for electronic travel authorization ?

Please advise! thank you so much.

Yes, you need ETA for Scotland and Northern Ireland. You do not need ETA to visit the Republic of Ireland.

Several members have posted to your other thread which you haven't acknowledged -- no you do not want to take a rental car from Scotland to Ireland. Just the insurance issues alone make that a non-starter. Reading that thread and this one it does seem you have not done any actual research for this trip coming up in just 5 days time!

Yes -- as mentioned you MUST apply for an ETA. Do it immediately. More than likely it will be approved quickly, but if it is denied you'll have to re-apply. Without one you will not be allowed to enter the UK (BTW - it's Edinburgh)

Ten days is a very short time to visit 2 countries -- and from your other thread it seems you arrive and depart through EDI. That means you plan on doing Scotland > Ireland > Scotland. 10 days is especially too little time for that. What have you already booked??
