US Airways layover
Hi,
After reading some comments on US Airway's delays in making connections, I have a question. There a couple of flights from DFW-PHL-FRA, one with about an hour & a half layover, the others with 3 or more hours. Would I be safe to take the 3.5 hour? I just hate making a long flight longer! Thanks a bunch! |
Are you in economy? If so and you opt for the long layover would you be willing to invest in a daypass for the USAirways Club?
|
What is the Club? We are in Coach

PHL is a fairly large airport and there are probably plenty of bars, etc., to help you while away the time.
But you might find it more comfortable to wait in one of the USAirways Club rooms. They are ordinarily reserved for member but you can purchase a so-called "day pass" which allows non-members to use the facility for a specific period of time. i honestly don't know how much those passes cost and they may end up being prohibitively expensive but I thought I would mention it. Nobody dislikes hanging around at the airport for long periods more than I do! |
In my experience, 90 minutes is enough connection time on the way TO Europe through Philadelphia, but inadequate on the return.
So many international flights arrive there at midafternoon that lines for immigration, customs, and security to get to your next gate can get backed up. I feel better with three hours for the return connection. |
I would take the 3.5 hour without doubt. An hour or so delay seems pretty common these days. I agree that you need more time coming into Philly than when you leave BUT if you miss your connection to Europe, you are often stuck overnight waiting for the next flight.

Thanks for all the advice! We're taking our chances with the 1.5 hour layover. We have almost 3 hours on the way back, so we should be ok getting through customs.
Thanks again! Michelle |
I believe a day pass to the uS Airways Club is $40. I do not know if that is just for one person or you and a traveling companion.
The site map on the US Airways website will give you that information. Sherry |
