Urgent- Paris- Shuttle from Gare de Lyon to Gare de l' Est?
Is there a shuttle between Gare de Lyon and Gare de l' Est? Since flight costs seem to climbing every time I call the travel agency I'm considering travelling on the TGV with 10 kids. Problem is that we would need to change train stations. I've never been to either train station.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hey GB,
Public transport options are at www.ratp.fr
It's a straight shot on the RER D, if you don't have a lot of luggage.
Or, you could take a cab.
Distance is about 6 km.

not that I know of, I don't know who would run that. The city would expect you to use the existing transportation system (the metro/RER). I agree it's not the most convenient option as it can't be done without a transfer.

Could you elaborate a bit more, so we could give you more realistic suggestions?
Where are you flying into and where do you want to go on the TGV?
Have you checked budget airlines on a website like skyscanner.net?
Are you the only adult and traveling with 10 kids? What are their ages? In other words, will they be hauling their own luggage or will they need help?

In fact the RER D goes from Gare de Lyon to Gare du Nord which is right next to Gare de l'Est (5 min walk?). In my opinion, it is your best bet if you don't want to take a taxi.
Using the Métro, you'll have to change lines at Chatelet which can be confusing and there are LOTS of stairs in the Paris Métro (not fun with luggage)

To get you going:
http://www.aparisguide.com/maps/metro.htm
You would need one transfer if using Metro
RER train (commuter train) lines:
http://www.aparisguide.com/maps/rer.htm
RATP says to take RER from GdL to GdN them an 8 minute walk over to GdE

Oh my! You all are AWESOME! MERCI!!!
The kids are all 13-14 yrs. old and I will have one other adult with me (never been to France). The kids will have at least 1 suitcase each since we'll be staying in the Montpellier area for 8 days with host families.
So I will take the RER from Gare de Lyon to Gare de Nord and then an 8 min. walk to Gare de l' Est. Is that doable with 10 kids and their suitcases if I have about 1hr 20 minutes between TGV connections? Are there no shuttle buses?

I guess my whole question revolves around why you even have to travel from G. Lyon to G. Est with ten kids in tow?
You can catch the TGV from the G. Lyon too. Just depends on where you are going. If you're going to Montpellier, then the TGV for Montpellier leaves from the Gare de Lyon anyhow. You don't have to go up to the G. Est.
Can you give us a more detailed idea of where from, where to, etc? Maybe we can plan a different route so you don't have to go from G. Lyon to G. Est. Those are two huge RR stations.
Furthermore, I really don't recommend traipsing from the G. Nord to the G. Est with so many kids and (guessing here) none of you have done this trek before. No,there are no shuttle buses between G. Est and G. Nord, you have to traverse some crooked streets one way or find the stairs the other way (through some crooked streets).
??? to G. Lyon ... G. Est to ???
Please fill in the question marks. Thanks!
The other thing is that if you do find a budget flight to wherever you wanted to go, these budget airlines allow only one carryon (either your purse or your suitcase but not both) not to exceed x kilos, so you'll have to advise the kids to pack LIGHT and to pack only one small suitcase.

well, I have a Streetwise Paris map and it doesn't show RER D stopping at Gare de l'Est and when I checked RATP that wasn't how they recommended going for the shortest route, they suggested the metro (not RER D and walking) with one transfer.
