Hi Jeff,
I don't mean to sound peeved, but were you suddenly sent to France on 48 hr notice?

Jeff Nov 5th, 2002 05:25 PM

No - I suddenly decided to get organized...it happens from time to time. I go there enough that I take it for granted...just looking for some insight!

Lucky you! How about a drive to Eze and then on to Cannes or Nice? Monaco is always a nice detour too.

XXX Nov 5th, 2002 06:23 PM

If you go there often, surely you've got some insight.

Figure it out. Get a guidebook. Get a map. Go for it.

Why don't you read the local paper or events guide to see what's going on? That's always a good idea, most cities have those. I think the one in Aix is called Semaine de Spectacles or something like that, get it at the tourism office. I'm sure Arles would have something like that at the tourist office, also, they always do that kind of stuff.

I guess it's too early to go truffle hunting, huh?

There's a big mushroom trade fair in Aix this weekend at the National History Museum, and an antiques salon, also.

Jeff, I've also been to Paris many times and we finished up a long trip this summer with a week in Paris. As we were driving towards Paris to drop off the car it suddently occurred to me that with all the planning for the trip, I hadn't given a thought to Paris. So we arrived for a week without a single plan or "must-do". It was probably the best week we ever spent there. We walked miles every day exploring new areas. We did a day trip out to Chantilly which was great. We finally did the catacombs, something we'd thought about but never done. But mostly we just relaxed with no pressure to see anything and loved every minute.

You may want to go out to Fontainebleau for the day -- it's awesome.

www.musee-chateau-fontainebleau.fr The SNCF offers a train/bus/chateau ticket which is cheaper. Check its website: www.sncf.fr Click on English flag on left hand side of homepage.
xx - it seems to me you are the one with the attitude. His suggestion of the catacombs is a good idea - i've missed that over the years

thanks peter - I am new to this and was wondering if it was just me.

I've never been to Paris before, but I can tell you that Patrick has the right of it. Some of the most wonderful vacations I've had have not been planned. Wandering around and really looking at a different city, culture, and people gives you a great feeling and a knowledge that you did things differently! Have a great time!

What's surprising is that Patrick, good Samaritan that he is, answered Jeff at all.

How about every single post here getting labeled with the message header "Need advice". Since Jeff leaves today, chances are that he won't be back here to read this. But maybe someone else will learn from it and get a clue.
