URGENT LONDON - Grainstore Apts., Canary Wharf

Does anyone in London know if the Grainstore Apts. on Canary Wharf are still operating?

Their emails bounce, phone # doesn't work and the website is expired.

We have PAID reservations for tomorrow and can't get a hold of them.

Please HELP.

welcome to Fodors.

I've never heard of them -- which doesn't mean much one way or the other. But who did you book through? airbnb or something like that?

Where exactly are the flats? Canary Wharf is an area not a single place.

Per Tripadvisor the actual address is:

The Grainstore Apartments
4 Western Gateway | Excel Royal Docks, London E16 1BA, England

It looks like they can still be booked via tripadvisor.

How did you originally find them/book the apartment?

Perhaps searching by the address you can find another contact.

Hello,

I booked them thru Agoda.com.

Agoda have also been trying for the past two days and cannot get a hold of the hotel.

I did find an additional contact thru the .com of the original website (it had .uk at the end). But the #'s and email for that site were not functioning either.

I fear there may not be good news. But there is a local property management company that has handled residential lettings in that building before and might know how to try to track down whoever took your booking and your money, through the managing agent for the building:
Oxygen Property Management
Tel: 020 8012 4888
Fax: 020 7540 5224

This doesn't look good. You may need to find an alternative for at least the first couple of nights, and to prepare an insurance claim, and a complaint to the booking company and the local Trading Standards department:
[email protected]

I would say anyway that this property isn't that well located for visitors to most of London, unless you have business in East London - it's further east than Canary Wharf, for one thing.

I've just searched laterooms and there is plenty of availability in Central London( of course I don't know your circumstances so I've searched for 3 nights for 2 people) You may have to pay more than you were bargaining for but I take it that you want to preserve your holiday.
Take care not to push the boat out on the basis you will recoup from your insurers, you may only recover the amount you've paid already.

If you booked through Agoda, then surely they have a responsibility to sort this out for you? Phone them on :
0044 2030 277900. If they can't contact the owner of the apartment that you rented, they should provide you with alternative accommodation.

I'm confused why the OP is calling this a "hotel". It's not - it;s an apartment and apparently privately owned (or perhaps not any more) and rented out. If the people who made the arrangements cannot contact them - I would make alternate reservations and contact them as soon as you get to London before trekking to the end of hell and gone to a place that may not be available (no matter the reason).

I would 100% definitely make a real hotel booking and try to follow up to see if agoda can get your deposit back. Don't chase after trying to keep this booking. How many are you and what is your budget - understanding it might be reduced since you've laid out a deposit.

Assuming you are visiting London to see sights and such you wouldn't want to stay way out there anyway. Book a hotel in the center of London - not miles east.

The OP needs to be near the Excel center. I googled these apartments, out of curiosity, and noticed other posts by the same poster; he has a niece in the Miss World pageant at the Excel.

If you have paid for the entire reservation in advance; go there and see if the apartment is available. But have a list of alternative hotels nearby in case it falls through.
