Urgent help please --- Wheel chair rental / purchase STORE in Frankfurt
 

Hello

My son fractured his foot and we have to travel to germany and Paris with a Wheelchair. I looked up on some sites and it tells you that you must order the wheelchair 2 weeks prior ...
I also found out that Rental is extremely expensive compared to buying one for about 200 Euro.

Does anyone know if there is a specific store or place that one can walk in and rent an inexpensive wheelchair (light weight foldable) or buy one.
Best case scenario would be if one could rent in frankfurt and return in Paris, but I don't think that is possible. (we fly into Frankfurt and leave out of Paris).

Paris Hotel Question - Urgent Please

I found a couple of very nice hotels that meet our needs (clean, modern, accessible - son on wheelchair , AC and elevator) but they are in the 16th astartment (section ) - I know I butchered that.

Is that too far from the city center? we would be going via Uber or taxi to sites given the fact that my son is on a wheelchair anyways. Too difficult to use subway and push him through.

I plan on just getting dropped off at the sites.

sites I thought my 11 yo would be interested in were --- ET, Notre Dame, Louvre, Giverney, Champ e lyse

Any information or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

does son have wheelchair now? Planes are very chair accommodating so why not take his current one or rent one here (very easy to do) - why wait until landing?

I wouldn't hassle with renting/buying -- I'd take a wheelchair from home. Either a full sized or a folding 'transport' chair. Would be cheaper and easier all around.

Also - you tacked on a question re Paris hotels to a thread about Frankfurt/wheel chairs. Few people who would comment about you Paris accommodation would open a thread about Frankfurt.

The 16th arrondissement is expensive, stuffy, and pretty far away from most Paris attractions, but that doesn't mean it's a bad place to stay, as you can get around Paris easily on buses with a wheelchair. Yes, public buses, not the métro. Could be even easier than Uber, but the Parisian G7 taxi company can provide accessible taxis as well.

Paris is full of pharmacies where you can rent a wheelchair if you can't bring one from home (which, I agree, would probably be your best bet).

Airlines and the French train system are great about providing helpers for wheelchair-bound people if you need such services.

Honestly- I was afraid to take the one we rented from here, bc the store said if you have the slightest damage on it we will charge you for the whole wheelchair when you come back. She also said, the train and plane crew always damage the wheelchairs ... always. So it scared us a little, as she said the cost of the wheelchair would be over $600.

Why don't you buy a new or used transport chair at home? You can buy a brand new transport chair for less the $150 from Walmart, Amazon, Overstock -- lots of sites. A little more for a wheelchair

I'd just stat a new thread with a new title re Paris hotels and copy/paste that post in to it.

Meant to add -- I know your son is 11yo. Is he a big boy or smaller? Unless he is a linebacker, a transport chair should be more than enough. Get one with slightly larger rear wheels will make it easier over rough surfaces. Like this one https://www.walmart.com/ip/Drive-Med...&wl13=&veh=sem

When booking trains be sure to ask for wheel chair place with accompanying seat for you - or can son walk at all?

Be sure to get a cushion for the chair. I ended up in a medical wheelchair for a week on a trip. It was terribly uncomfortable, to the point of being truly painful, without a pillow.

PalenQ - he can walk a little not too much. The thing with the transport chairs is that they have to be pushed, where as with the bigger wheels he can push himself sometimes. in our home town the weight difference was 2 pounds.
I had already gone to walmart and they don't sell it in town , you have to order and get it shipped . and we are leaving in a couple of days ... I guess I should've bought it sooner. I didn't realize it would be that challenging getting one there.
