Urgent help needed CDG to La Defense, Paris

My husband is stuck in an airport hotel with no email and needs to know how to get most efficiently from Charles de gaulle airport to a meeting at La Defense in the morning.

For some reason he thought I'd be able to find out:) Can you help, peeps?

Christina Aug 12th, 2003 01:03 PM

I am female, is peeps like British slang for "chick"? I was at CDG Hilton month or so ago and they claim they have email, but that was a farce ... some keyboard thing in the bedroom with the TV that never did work correctly.

Okay, take the RER B line from CDG south to Chatelet/Les Halles stop. Transfer to the RER line A1 which goes west and had a stop at La Defense.

So far as I know, "peeps" is street slang for "people"....

If you listen to any "urban" music radio stations, you'll hear artists and/or DJs giving "props" ("proper respect") to their peeps, their homies, their girls/mommas, etc.

Lesli Aug 12th, 2003 01:13 PM

Christina is correct. To find this on your won, I suggest the "route finder" on the RATP site (http://www.ratp.fr/), which has and English language option and gives very specific results:

Starting address : RER AEROPORT CHARLES DE GAULLE 2 TGV

Destination address : Métro ESPLANADE DE LA DEFENSE
Date : 13/08/2003
Departure at : 07H10
Options : Any, Least interchange

TAKE THE RER B AT AEROPORT CHARLES DE GAULLE 2 TGV AT 07H14 DIRECTION ROBINSON UNTIL CHATELET-LES HALLES AT 07H50
TAKE THE METRO LINE 1 AT CHATELET DIRECTION LA DEFENSE UNTIL ESPLANADE DE LA DEFENSE
IT WILL TAKE YOU ABOUT 1 HOUR 15 MIN

Youse guys....

you take my breath away.

(Peeps is short for people. See old British comedian- Stavros)

I always thought sheila was a grand lady who lived on a country estate - now you tell me she is really an urban street rapper?

sheila Aug 12th, 2003 01:30 PM

Actually, I don't think I'm either.....I think:)

indytravel Aug 12th, 2003 01:48 PM

The ratp site must have a built in "economizer." It would be cheaper to take the Metro to La Defense because the Metro portion to La Defense would be included in the cost of your RER ticket from the airport to Les Halles. I wouldn't do it that way especially if a company is paying. I'd switch to the RER like Christina mentioned and get out there quicker on the RER. Just make sure you get a ticket that's valid from CDG to La Defense on the RER.

I thought peeps were those nasty sugar coated marshmallows you find at Easter. :-)

Lesli Aug 12th, 2003 01:58 PM

Good catch, Indy! I hadn't realized that RATP's instructions said to change to the Metro, while Christina's advised to switch RER lines. And the reason for that is that I selected the Metro rather than the RER station....

Like you, I'd pay a bit more and stick with the slightly faster RER.

Starting address : RER AEROPORT CHARLES DE GAULLE 2 TGV

Destination address : RER LA DEFENSE GRANDE ARCHE
Date : 13/08/2003
Departure at : 07H55
Options : Any, Least interchange

TAKE THE RER B AT AEROPORT CHARLES DE GAULLE 2 TGV AT 07H59 DIRECTION ROBINSON UNTIL CHATELET-LES HALLES AT 08H35
TAKE THE RER A AT CHATELET-LES HALLES AT 08H39 DIRECTION SAINT-GERMAIN-EN-LAYE UNTIL LA DEFENSE AT 08H49
IT WILL TAKE YOU ABOUT 1 HOUR

Also like you, I detest those florescent marshmallow thingies they always try to sell for Easter baskets!

I thought "peeps" was the screen name of a very helpful Fodorite who lives in Munich!

wpcx2 Aug 12th, 2003 03:49 PM

By taxi?

Christina Aug 12th, 2003 06:03 PM

I didn't really give a lot of thought as to the RER versus metro, but if you had a pass of some kind it wouldn't make any difference in cost, I don't think. I mainly said RER because the transfer is not far, right next to each other. If you walk from the RER B all the way over to the line 1 metro stop, it's a bit farther, I think.

hanl Aug 12th, 2003 09:56 PM

Christina's right, the RER trains are all in the same area, so you just have to change platform. For the metro, you have to exit the RER area and walk quite far through the confusing, crowded corridors of the Chatelet station. And there shouldn't be any different in price, whether you take RER/RER or RER/metro from CDG to la Défense.

Well, I think you're all wonderful, but somewhat less wonderful is my spouse, who I called this morning to ascertain how he was getting on.

He slept in, missed the airport bus and is getting a taxi....he could have done THAT without hep from any of you.

Thanks anyway.

Kavey Aug 13th, 2003 02:47 AM

lol Sheila... K sleep in? Never!

And come on, don't be shy. Isn't it time to admit to these nice folks that you might be a hot shot legal superstar by day but by night you're an urban street rapper impersonater!

ira Aug 13th, 2003 04:26 AM

Hi Sheila,

Good to see that hubby regained his senses and took a cab.

ira Aug 13th, 2003 04:26 AM

PS,

Didn't the people at the hotel know?
