Urgent Advice Pls!
 

Hi,
I'm heading to Bruges on Thursday and need some expert advice urgently.

1. I'll be staying overnight at Bruges on 5th Nov and was thinking of heading to Brussels for a day drip on the 6th. However, I had to get back to bruges by 4.30pm. Is that advisable or possible?

2. I'm a big chocolate lover especially those little dark chocolate truffles! Hmm..was wondering would there be any price difference between Brussels and Bruges as I'm hoping to bring back loads of it. :D Saw from the forum that most of the chocolates are overpriced?

3. Read some of the restaurant recommendations in the forum, which was kinda beyond my budget. (I'm studying in UK) So would appreciate if someone can point me to the right direction of a decent flemish restaurant with an "appetising" price tag. (especially those that serve great mussels dishes!)

I've never been to Bruges, but my understanding is that it's about 40 minutes away from Brussels.

So regarding 1., a day trip to Brussels is certainly possible.

Grand'Place is within a five-minute walk of Central Station.

Whether you want to do the trip is obviously up to you, but it's definitely possible.

Not sure about chocs being so expensive in Belgium. I know the $ is down vs the Euro - but every time I have bought chocs in Belgium they have been the bargain of all time. The quality is incredibly good and the prices were always significantly less than in the US (ie godiva - not that's way overpriced considering the very mediocre quality.).

Many, many people make a daytrip from Brussels to Bruges, no reason why you can't do it in the opposite direction.

If you are flying out from the Brussel airport, get your chocolate there since you can get it tax free(about 8% cheaper than reatail in the city) We bought a lot in Brussel and end up couldn't resist the price in the airport and bought more :) We love the Brand "Neuhaus" the best and it's much better than "Godiva". Neuhaus has a lot of locations inside the airport.

I love Neuhaus chocolate, but really, the best chocolate I had were at the small non-chain type shops in Bruges. Look for them and buy there. They're quite liberal with their samples too, so act interested for a taste!

Thanks all for the advice. Any suggestions for the restaurants? Does it means its kinda expensive over there? Would it be possible have a good dinner or lunch for approx 15 Euros per pax?
