Upper speed limit on autovías/ autopistas reduced plus train fares reduced.

Autovías y autopistas - highways or motorways (US OR UK)are going to have a reduced upper speed limit. This will now be 110 KPH down from the present 130KPH. This is an ongoing temporary measure to save on fuel costs. Road signs will be changed and so will the fines. Points on your licence will not affect the foreign tourist.
Plan your trips accordingly.
The article says that public lighting will also be affected by this energy saving measure.
This article says that RENFE are reducing train fares too.

it is 120km. supposedly they don't ticket til 130km.

I am not sure how long this will last. Most things proposed by the gov't in the morning have been rectified within 24-48 hours.

So not sure if this will stick.

Frankly, watching the news and reading the papers is getting more depressing everyday.
I'm not even happy this Spanish news is getting onto "my " Fodor's readings.

I have to agree with you lincasanova. We're heading back in a couple of weeks (Renfe, Vueling and another rental car), but again, I was sure that the speed limit on most highways was already lowered to 120km.

yes 120...sorry typo.
So no AVE fare reductions?

The fuel and cost savings don't add up. especially if this is only 10 kph reduction.

Now how many thousands of new signs will we have? I don't even want to
THINK of that expense. Then putting them up taking the others down. Might as well have us creep around at 90 or so.. we'd really save gas that way.

Lots of other ways to save energy around here...like take down or turn off 70% of the street lights. I can read a newspaper or small print book walking down my street. It's absolutely ridiculous.

I would like to see government downsize first before they keep barging into our lives. We've got enough problems already.

This is the same government that hired THOUSANDS of new civil servants after being warned AGAIN by the World Bank that Spain has TOO MANY C.Servants for its population.

We'll see what they say tomorrow. This may be old news by next week.
