Updates on CDG airport
 

Paraphrased from La Provence newspaper:
At CDG, 60 flights per day are being shuffled from the now closed Terminal 2E to CDG's other terminals. No cancelations are planned and passenger check in should not be unduly disrupted (they say!) despite the pressures of extra passengers going through other terminals.
At the moment, longhaul flights on Aeromexico, CSA, Delta and Korean airlines will go through terminal 2C, while medium haul flights will go through 2B. This change will last through May 31, then be re-assessed and will probably continue longer.
AF flights originally slated for 2E will be re-assigned to different terminals on a day to day basis. No changes in AF flight schedules are planned.

I just flew back from CDG (I had a connection through their from Barcelona) on Tuesday. The flight to Chicago the day before was cancelled, but as of Tuesday, we were able to take off. The flight was about 45 minutes late and they had to shuttle us from our gate to a different terminal. I connected through CDG a few days before the accident and thought CDG was the worst airport I have ever had to connect through. We had to take TWO shuttle buses to our terminal, and that was supposed to be on a normal day. So basically, I didn't notice much of a difference on the way back.

Not surprisingly, there were the expected Fox News/National Inquirer style posts here when the incident occurred and they all made it sound as if the entire terminal had collapsed and that air traffic would be disrupted for decades.

Singletail, I don't really understand your point of view that since only part of the roof and terminal collapsed, it was no big deal. In case you didn't read, they closed the entire terminal down. I think I read that they were going to "total" the terminal, like a car from an accident -- meaning demolish it. I don't remember anyone saying air traffic would be disrupted for decades, but I think it clearly must cause some problems unless they had an awful lot of excess capacity at CDG.

A colleague of mine told me he read/heard that there wasn't a problem with number of runways at CDG, it was just how crowded the terminals would be that had to take on the overflow. That was good to know, although the last time I went through 2C for security before a flight, it was pretty darn crowded.

I was just there yesterday; no problems. We were routed through 2C (flying Air France to JFK).

Gee, a few people DIED there Christina; just because this incident doesn't have a direct impact on something YOU are doing doesn't mean it is no big deal. Roofs (partial or otherwise) don't collapse in airports everyday. If you were there would you have casually picked your way over the rubble proclaiming it was "no big deal"? I'm sure it was a big deal to the family and friends of those who died, and the other people who were in the terminal at the time.

That aside, I'm sure CDG will do what they can to keep people from being inconvenienced.

I don't think you read Christina's post carefully. She was saying that it <i>IS</i> a big deal.

France 2 news last night reported that 12 percent of airplanes coming into CDG arrive at Terminal 2E. That's a decent percentage of airplanes, so of course there is going to be disruption.

Apparently, the Paris airports authority is trying to adopt a &quot;life goes on&quot; attitude, as its own website now has removed all mention of Terminal E, as though it never existed, having reverted to pre-terminal E maps.

Wow I did check the websight the day after and thought it unusual that they had not updated their websight since the terminal 2E was open several months.
I had not been through CDG since 2001 and didn't recall such a terminal. Thanks for the update.
