Update on booking Trenitalia 4 bed couchette for 2 people

Sorry, I can't find the original posting. Apparently you cannot book the whole compartment for 2 people using the promotional fares. It doesn't allow you to choose 4 beds in the same compartment. However, if you are willing to pay full fare, it looks like you can book the entire compartment. We've gone ahead and booked 2 beds and are keeping our fingers crossed that it may not be full. But in any case, it is only one night and we will get from Bari to Bolzano for only E30 each and at least get to lie down. We'll treat ourselves to make up for it somewhere else.

Did you trying booking the entire compart for FOUR people using the promtional fares or just for TWO people?

Hello,
Yes, I did try booking for 4 people using the promotional fares. I tried all sorts of combinations. I know entire compartments were available because it allowed me to book 4 beds in one compartment if I paid full fare. If I were really trying for 4 people, I think I would have had to take 2 beds in one compartment and 2 beds in another.

Did you try to book an entire compartment using the "Liberta' di Viaggiare Family"?????

It's a new promotional rate offered to families who want to book an entire compartment of seats or couchettes or wagon lits bunks.

You could book four comfort couchettes for as little as 150 Euros, or six traditional couchettes for 120 Euros.

The Family Freedom promotion for booking an entire compartment says that it "is not available online". I emailed the North American representative Italiarail (named on the Trenitalia site) but they were unable to book the Family Freedom promotion. Perhaps we can get it when we get to Italy and cancel what we have. For the record, RailEurope will book 4 beds in a compartment for the full price plus their service charges - no deal.
