Upcoming Family Trip
Hi, I am a new poster to this site but find the information very very helpful. My family, Husband (native Italian, to US at 3, and speaks Italian) myself, daughter 12 and son 8, are leaving 7/28 for 10 days. Our itenerary is 3 nights in Rome, 1 with family in Gaeta, 3 in Sorrento, and 3 in Pietrelcina (hometown with family). My biggest questions regard Sorrento.
Should we drive from Rome to Gaeta and Sorrento, if not can we pick up a car in Sorrento to drive to the hometown? Do you know of a good "driver" company to contact to replace the car. Is it possible to see Capri at night without staying there? I am planning to stop in Pompei on the way from Gaeta to Sorrento, is that doable? I suppose that is all for now. I would appreciate you help. |
Hi maryg,
Welcome to Fodors! You may have better luck getting your questions answered if you post each one individually with a very descriptive title. We visited Capri during the day in May 2005. At that time at least, the last ferries departed around 6pm in the evening. We did a private boat tour but it also left Capri in the late afternoon. I believe there are ways to hire a boat for the day but even they might require the boat returned by nightfall. |
Hi Mary - Welcome :)
You could drive to Gaeta - but you can easily get there by public transport if you prefer. There are frequent fast trains from Roma Termini to FORMIA - from where there are connecting buses to Gaeta. There are a number of car hire companies in Sorrento - Hertz, Avis etc. If you prefer to be driven, the following are limo companies based in Sorrento: www.tourofitaly.com www.francescomarrapese.com www.cuomonet.it www.seesorrento.com www.sorrento.it It's not possible to see Capri by night without staying (- unless you arrange a private water taxi) - as the last ferry currently leaves Capri for Sorrento at 19.00. [The only other way to leave Capri later would be to catch a later ferry/hydrofoil to Naples - then return to Sorrento by train. Rather inconvenient :( ] There is a left luggage store at the entrance to Pompeii, so stopping there en route to Sorrento is a possibility. Hope this helps ... Steve P.S. As Aggie says, for your future posts it's always best to be as specific as possible in your title - including the resort name. 'Upcoming Family Trip' could mean Lithuania, England or Outer Mongolia - so most people won't bother looking. Hope this helps ... |
At the risk of piling on, please see http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34839618 - - and do what BudTX did... re-post.
Best wishes, Rex |
