University of Leicester
Good afternoon,
I am currently doing a BA in Anthropology and have become quite interested in doing distance education with the University of Leicester (Archeology & Ancient History). I am having trouble getting opinions on this side of the pond. Can any offer any knowledge, experiences, and reviews of this school? Many thanks! |

Good resource and you can look by subject. Leicester comes 6th nationally for results for archaeology. |
Thanks so much! I read that their Bio/Med departments were outstanding....had a bit of trouble finding other info.

Leicester's School of Archaeology and Ancient History, which is the program I believe you'd be looking at, is very well regarded. They have pioneered distance learning and have many graduates of the MA course worldwide. I don't know how much practical experience you have, but would recommend lots of hands-on work or volunteer experience to augment the distance learning experience.
I'm very familiar with Leicester's program and am in the field in the US. I'm happy to converse on this topic offline if you care to post your email. |

alanRow - thanks for that tip. I have been doing so much searching and posting I must have completely forgotten that I have already asked here! I have found very few people familiar with the school in Canada (hence my hitting up the European board).
Sprin2, thanks very much for the offer. [email protected] Take care everyone! |
Hi!
I'm a Canadian student currently at the University of Leicester doing an MA in Museum Studies. I can tell you that the university has a large number of international students and the department I'm in is internationally recognized as one of the best in the field. The city itself is quite a nice place to live. It has about 300,000 people, with a great selection of restauarants, shopping, pubs and nightclubs. It isn't touristy in the least, and the campus is only a 15 minute walk from everything in the city centre with a beautiful pedestrian walk connecting the two. There is also a great market in the city centre (runs Monday through to Saturday year round!). Not sure if you want more detailed information on the school itself or the city but if you have any more questions just post! |
