University Accommodation
Has anyone stayed in university student accommodation when it is the holiday break? I am interested in London, Paris and anywhere in Switzerland. Any leads and prices appreciated.

Yes..years ago in London. Dorm living in a good location..I felt quite safe. Another friend was staying at a student hostel. zthe first night he had trouble sleeping because of the noise, the second night a stabbing and the third am he checked out! Remember the UK terms run later than the US. I am almost certain my room did not have AC.

Take a look here for the UK, particularly London:
http://www.venuemasters.co.uk/shortbreaks.asp We used university accommodation in Edinburgh. It was fine, and so much cheaper than anything else we could hope to get during the festival. |
In LOndon several colleges offer B&B and self catering accomodations at pretty reasonable rates. They used to be dirt cheap - but the adminstrators know a money maker when they see one so now they are generally just a bit cheaper than B&Bs and tourist grade hotels/studios.
Imperial College, Kings College and the LSE all have vacation rentals - and there are some others. |
Some student places in London are still pretty cheap. For example, Wigram House in London near Victoria Station has single rooms (shared bathroom) for 25 pounds per night - hard to match that anywhere, particularly considering the reviews are reasonable. You can't get that price directly, though - I think you have to book it through Hostelworld.com .

I stayed in a very nice single with shared bath (dorm type bathroom; never saw anyone in there) in London, in a dorm, about 20 years ago. I have since looked at these accomodations online, and although they are cheaper than a lot of hotels, the price has certainly gone up disproportionately to the rise in cheap hotel prices. Still a bargain though, and some come with breakfast in the cafeteria.

I am travelling to Nice in May and would like to find a nice place to stay pref on the water, any suggestions?
Also going to Biziers and would like to find a place to stay. 2 people |
I've stayed in a couple of LSE places, and Wigram House. None of them had AC, and the new LSE Grosvenor House didn't even have fans. Wouldn't have mattered, but London was having a heat wave at the time. I wouldn't stay at Wigram again, it was in dire need of renovation (I was there in 2005). Grosvenor House has studios with en suite bathrooms and kitchenettes, but it's a bit pricey. LSE's Holborn res. had shared bathroom & kitchen facilities, but it was a good value.

Thankyou to all replies and the information offered. I will hopefully find what I am looking for from these leads.
