Unique Pharmacies in Barcelona and Italy?
Weird question, I know.
Tim is a pharmacist. My parents were recently in Dubrovnik and stumbled across an old old pharmacy that they knew he would have enjoyed.
So I thought I would ask if anyone has come across any old pharmacies or pharmacy-related places/items in the places we'll be visiting in the next three months. We are not looking for retail pharmacies unless they have an interesting history or some other special significance.
We'll be visiting:
Barcelona and the Costa Brava
and
Rome, Florence, and Venice.
Thanks!
Liz

Not so weid...I quite enjoy visits to antiquarian pharamacies and we don't even have the excuse of being related to pharmacists!
Can't help with personal experience of other cities but in Florence I know two. The first is Farmacia SS Annunziata, a real pharmacy still operating as such, from the 1500's. The second is far fancier, but absolutely fascinating and now a parfumiere: the Farmacia Santa Maria Novella. Although very pricey, their toiletries, herbal honeys etc are fabulous.

In Florence, Santa Maria Novella, mentioned above, is amazing. I repeat: Amazing!
Another great one is Munstermann, which has been on Pza Goldoni for over 100 years:

I would have to agree with ekscrunchy. My wife and I spent the better part of an afternoon searching for and the being amazed by the Farmacia Santa Maria Novella.
I had read about it in one of the Hannabal Lector stories and it just sounded like (and turned out to be) an incredibly sensual experience.
We were there in the heat of summer and it was sweltering outside. The moment we walked in it was like a different world ! The marble made it so cool and the fragrances ...
Highly recommended !

If you are going to mention Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, you should list the address so Tim and Liz can find the shop in Firenze. Sheesh.
Famaceutica SMN-Via della Scala, 16n, Florence, Italy.
If you are facing the church of Santa Maria Novella, the shop is down the street (via Scala) to your left, on the right hand side. The shop is unmarked. You have to look down at the marble stoop to find the crest of SMN. Walk through the wooden double doors and genuflect before the perfumers to Catherine de Medici.
My family have been patrons for over 100 years.

Wow, thank you all!
I wasn't even expecting one response to this question. I greatly appreciate your posts and will report when we return. (We aren't going to Italy until March.)
Thanks again!
