Under the Tuscan Sun-Movie
Got to see the preview of this movie tonight and really enjoyed it. I did not read the book. The scenery is beautiful and the acting very good.
|
I just saw it too and I have a feeling that people who read the book will be dissapointed.
Also it really bugged me that in two scenes, the microphone could be seen at the top of the screen. That's one of my pet peeves, if I can see it right away, can't the directors/editors see it? Though the scenery was beautiful, I did find the story a little bit simple, but it was enjoyable. |
And the movie story is completely unrelated to the book. Must be nice to write a book, reap all the royalties, and then get money from a movie that is completely unrelated to your book.Mind you, I don't care, I just think it's a bit strange. I guess all you need to make millions these days is a TITLE.

DH and I both enjoyed it (I've read the book, he has not)
There were loads of characters and situations that were not in the book, but it was a fun movie all the same. |
Would it be appropriate for a 9 year old girl?
|
Calamari,
It depends on the 9 year old and what you want your daughter to see. I assume it's your daughter. I don't want to give away the whole plot, but there is a lesbian couple, a quick romance, in which there is sex scene, though she does have her bra on. There is also another quick sex scene with another couple. I know some people who wouldn't be bothered by their daughter seeing the movie, and some might not want to. I suggest you ask some friends who know you and your daughter and have seen the movie and ask them. |

Thanks so much for that info. No, sounds like she will have to wait for that one. |
It doesn't sound half as boring as the book was....LOL
|
Calamari,
I just reread my msg, and let me clarify, just in case that makes some difference...the love scene isn't between the lesbian couple...they're just having a baby together. :) |
Can a full-length feature film of "Too Much Tuscan Sun" be far behind? Who will play the lead? :)
|
Madonna

Saw the movie last night.
Wasn't that great scenery in Positano? |
I haven't read the book but saw the previews in California about a dozen times. I don't know the entire story, but I thought it was funny that half the preview was clearly Positano, but it is called "TUSCAN" sun. Did they move Positano since I was there?
|
Patrick. Since they are not concerned about being faithful to the story line of the book, moving the setting wouldn't bother them either.
I guess we can just enjoy he scenery as presented. |
Patrick,
Most of the movie is in Corona. She goes to her boyfriend's place in Positani where you actually see the most scenery of the movie. |
I *hated* the book. I thought it was increadibly boring and pretentious (which I did not think it was possible when describing moving to Tuscany, LOL!). Would I still enjoy the movie? Are there enough scenes of Italy itself to make it bearable?
|
It's a "chick flick" through and through, with quite a few shots of Tuscan hills and Firenze, enough of Positano to make my husband go "Oooh" and one shot of the "typewriter" to establish she was in Rome. The couple next to us recognized the street of antique shops in Rome too.
I'd take a 9 year old in a heartbeat; I've seen more sex in a Victoria's Secret commercial. But you might have to explain what a lesbian is, and, perhaps, how one manages to have a baby. |
I was disappointed in the film. The script is very weak, has too many sub-plots and none developed well enough for my taste. I wanted to see more of Tuscany as I will be going there in Oct. and altho I enjoyed the views of Positano, it sure was a stretch for something entitled, "Under the Tuscan Sun." For anyone who did read the book, there was a token scene of the female lead dishing out lots & lots of dishes. It all looked delicious!

"you might have to explain what a lesbian is and how one manages to have a baby."
Is this 9 year old retarted or something? |
Times have changed! When I was a child I thought that if you kissed somebody you could get pregnant.:)
