Under 25 discounts!

In order to take advantage of the reduced rates in Paris, Barcelona and Rome, for under 25 year olds, will I need to buy a special type of card that says my age, can I take a copy of passport, original passport? What have you or someone you know used as a valid form of identification?

The reduced rates can be found in: Palais Garnier, Orsay, Pantheon.....

Thanks

Sometimes reduction is only given to EU citizens - check individual websites.

I checked, but websites say non-EU citizens so I know that I qualify.

Then in France you only have to prove you are under 26 - passport sufficient

Italy may require the ISTC Student Identity Card, sold at STA Travel agencies near campuses or from university international centers for about $30 - also gives some insurance and other benefits.

Museums now in France i believe are free to those under 26 and for this you have to be an EU citizen - may not be the case for the under 26 admission rates (though these may have been abolished due to most museums recently being made free i believe)

There isn't anything that trumps a passport in terms of age verification. I know people who have used a passport for that. In lots of places it is under 26, not under 25, for special tarifs or entry (such as the Orsay). I think they often give that age discount to anyone, but some other ones are only for EU residents.

I have also used a US driver's license for ID in museums in France or other places, but can't predict what will happen to you. There definitely is no reason to have a special card to claim your age if you have a valid passport.

Okay, thanks everyone. I'm ready to go! :)

Respectively i think there are museums in some countries that offer discounts only to students under 26 and the ISTC International Student ID card is one of the few accepted student ID's they will accept

More and more like in France it's mainly for anyone under 26 but Italy at least a few years back did require the ISTC - if a student take you regular student ID as well if not the ISTC card

The problem with ISIC is that it was not worth the $30 for me on my last trip. I'm the kind of traveler that spends hours upon hours in a single museum (don't like to be running around 2-3 museums in a single day), so I ended-up saving $30 two years ago for a card that was $30, not worth my time.

Also, I don't think Barcelona offers any discounts for students or under 26 - except for like two museums, only 1 which I will actually visit.

Thanks for everything.

Further suggestions will be appreciated.

Just to add onto Christina and Palenque's comments. Especially in Paris, there is an important distinction between the under 25 and student discounts. For the under 25 to 26 a passport will do. If it is a student discount (and several in Paris say it is under 25-26 when they really mean under 25 to 26 and a student) then the ISIC is the safe bet. Of course you still need to make sure you will save more in the reduced admissions than you spent on buying the card.

Good to know MrNuke, thanks!
