The Britannique is an excellent hotel, but way above the op's requirement of $200 per night. We have stayed there and loved it, but it isn't even close to that budget

Oops! So sorry! I honestly did not recall it being that expensive. My apologies.

Hi there:

I rarely pay more than that per night for a Paris hotel - I try to keep it to around $150

I use Hotels.com (10 nights gets you one free night) and did a search for a day in September (4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 14 arr.) and came up with this list .
https://uk.hotels.com/search.do?reso...m-0-children=0

Over the years, from the list I have personally stayed at the following and been very happy.Hôtel Jeanne d'Arc Le Marais

Grand Hotel des Balcons

Hôtel Elysa-Luxembourg

Hotel De Sevres

I also have stayed at least three times in the Hotel Raspail mentioned about and loved it.

Last October we stayed at the Hotel College du France. It was $215 CAD, which is well below your budget.

This May we’re staying at Hotel Clement.

My sister is staying at Hotel de Grand Balcons.

All were recommended by Fodorites, all are central, all around my preferred $200 CAD, and all rate at least 8.5 on booking.com, which is the lowest I’ll consider.

While looking at Clement, I found the rate varied wildly depending on the date, so I looked for the cheapest dates, and then booked our flight around that.

Good luck, report back on which hotel you choose!

I usually stay at Hotel Cosmos or Hotel Américain.

They're both near the République metro station, so you'd have to travel that bit further to the sights, but I like that this is a more workaday and non-(or less-)touristed area.

Yes I like the location of the Hotel Americain-I think it is probably one of the better locations you will find in your budget for the right bank-and it does have an elevator. It puts you in walking distance of the Marais and Picasso Museum for example.

It doesn't have A/C but hopefully in mid-September that might not be an issue

You mentioned you looked for an apartment. Here is one in the 1st Arrondissement in September that is within your budget limits: https://www.vrbo.com/10224201ha?adul...ure=2020-09-15

Four people, two hotel rooms capped at $200.00 per night as two of the parties have a hard cap of $100.00 per night, so $400 per night for four people as I understood the OP. That is why I suggest an apartment for four under $400.00 per night. I may have misunderstood the OP though.

Also, the listing has three twin beds and one double, so every person would have their own bed, albeit sharing the actual room with another.

apersuader, that was my understanding, too, but it would be certainly be helpful if the OP clarified their total budget.

Does the apt have a registration number? No number may mean it is illegal.

Please check whether it's legal. You may suddenly find yourself without accommodation if it isn't

To be more precise, if you rent an illegal apartment, you do not get in trouble at all -- that is the owner's problem. But many owners have been known to cancel at the last minute for obscure reasons. The most common claim is "plumbing problems" but sometimes they come up with something more inventive.

Owners who demand cash payment are automatically illegal (but that shouldn't be the case with AirBnb), but the other red flag is if they tell you do never open the door if somebody rings the bell, because the official inspectors sometimes come around to check, particularly after other apartment owners have blown the whistle.

I think you will happier than having two hotel rooms. I love the ability to cook or have laundry and not stuck in a super small room. Have fun as you plan the rest of the trip.
