Umbrian Hill Towns

Am looking for the best base town to stay in for a week. Will be doing day trips to the surrounding towns. My husband and I are in our late 50's and prefer quieter places and smaller crowds. Would like to stay in town and walk to restaurants each night. Would also love any input for an in-town apartment (with a balcony hopefully).

You might try googling enotecapiazzaonofri. Its a restaurant in the center of Bevagna.

First, Bevagna is not a hill town. Its flat. But I think that I know my way around Bevagna better than where I live in the US.

The proprietor of Enoteca Piazza Onofri owns a dozen or so apartments and I've stayed in several of them. While I don't recall any with a balcony, there may be one.

With a car you are only a few minutes to Montefalco (Sagrantino wine), Spello, Assisi and Trevi. Minutes further are Perigia, Norcia and Spoleto.

Good luck with your search. If you end up in this region I can help with dining options.

Thanks DRJ. Seems as though I'm having a difficult time with this initial planning. I still have Florence, Venice and Cinque Terra to research. LOL.

We spent 11 nights in Spello and thought it was a great base for touringthat part of Umbria. We stayed in the Augustus apartment at Casa Spello. There is a small front balcony and a large shared patio and yard. It is a great apartment. We really enjoyed staying in town. We went in early June and was there for the Inforiata.

We visited Bevagna, Montefalco, Todi, Assisi, Norcia, Gubbio, the Sibillini National Park. We spent an extra night in Orvieto.
