That's not a bad idea, to stay in Bevagna. It's in the middle of some memorable towns--Assisi and Spello to the north, the beautiful, serene Todi to the southwest, and Spoleto of festival fame to the southeast. And if you're interested in pottery, Deruta is northwest. Not a bad location at all for a taste of Umbria.

DRJ - you kindly gave me the same recommendation for that restaurant when I posted my Italy itinerary last summer! We didn't have the chance to go, but we fell in love with Umbria, so it's on the top of the list for the next visit. We ate some memorable meals in Umbria, and it would be great to carry on in the same vein with your favorite.

dln: I must shamefully report that on my fall trip I visited nearby and FAILED to get to Taverna del Pescatore. Never again.

A week in Siena seems like 6 days too long to me. I know people love it but it didn't do anything for me. It lacked a certain charm, pretty dirty, and couldn't find a good place to eat...maybe I missed something?

DRJ - this really does sound like a good place to stay. Do you know how much the apts are?

Barb: Its been a few years, but my best recollection is about $100 per night. (Back when the US dollar was valuable.)
