UK recommendations

Planning 12 days in October in England. Suggestions, please. We would be interested in settling in somewhere for the time (countryside) and possibly renting a narrow boat for 2-3 days. The list of options is overwhelming..........so, any suggestions on "don't miss" area? First time we've stayed this long. We prefer countryside and smaller towns - enjoy the sights and the people.

Many thanks

>>The list of options is overwhelming......….<<

Yes it is -- you need to narrow things down just a bit. Otherwise I could recommend a couple of hundred places you could go.

>>so, any suggestions on "don't miss" area?<< See above. Which area(s) are you considering?

Re a narrowboat -- maybe not in October. You could have glorious fall weather . . . or cold/wet/miserable. And no way to tell which until the day you collect the vessel.

You might consider getting a good guidebook -- my favorites are Rough Guide and Lonely Planet -- and seeing what kinds of countryside and local sights make your heart leap. :-)
