UK Itinerary, final draft?
First, thank you all for your suggestions - they were most helpful.
This is pretty much a final itinerary and I have most lodging confirmed, but still have a few questions.
Leave April 23, arrive London 6:30 AM 4/24.
Two nights in London. Hotel not set up as yet. I was once eligible to to stay at the Union Jack Club and may still be, so that is a possibility. If not I might try Priceline, but have never used it before.
4/26 Travel to Salisbury, overnight at the Webster B&B.
4/27 Rent car and drive to Bath, visiting Stonehenge and Avebury along the way.
Bath 3 nights staying at Cornerways B&B
Cotswolds 3 nights. Have yet to find a B&B. I think I would like to stay in the area of the Slaughters - seems like a nice central place. Probably will do a side trip to Blenheim Palace.
Stratford upon Avon 2 nights. Woodstock B&B. See Romeo and Juliet - plenty of tickets still available. Any suggestion regarding seats at the Courtyard Theatre. The side circle looks good and front row seats are available near the side of the stage - how are the sight lines there? I thought of staying 5 nights in the Cotswolds as suggested but decided to spit it up because I do not care for the idea of driving back at night, even to a closer place like Chipping Camden, particularly since I am not used to driving on the left and there are a lot of things in SuA that we want to see.
Drive to York, 3 nights - still looking for a place. I sent an inquiry to Bloomsbury B&B but have yet to receive a reply.
Turn in car and Train to Edinburgh - I thought of keeping the car and driving there as suggested, but decided not to although there would be some very interesting things to see along the way.
Four nights Edinburgh at 14 Hart B&B. Have yet to decide on side trips from Edinburgh if any.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I saw "The Tempest" in Stratford-upon-Avon last year while visiting England for the first time. I sat in the front row on the stage-left side. There was no problem with sight lines; the director had blocked his actors well so that they didn't "upstage" each other from the side. The front row is really close too--I could reach out my arm and touch the stage without stretching, and it was great to see some of the little things that I would have missed if I'd been further back.

Everything is now falling into place. All B&Bs have been booked - The Rooftrees Guest House in Bourton-on-the-Water looks lovely and the price is right. Same for the Chelmsford Guest House in York. All that is left is secure 2 nights in London.
Question - does bidding on priceline have better results when fairly close to the dates needed, e.g., a week or two before rather than 2 months before?
We are lucky on this trip that our two grown children will be house sitting so we do not have to arrange with neighbors to water plants, etc.

From Edinburgh there are some sweet easy day trips, such as to Sterling and its famous Castle (Braveheart associations) and a neat regional town surrounded by lush countryside
Or to St Andrews, taking a train across the famous Firth of Forth rail bridge to Leuchars, then bus five miles into this famous ancient seaside town - St Andrews with its Golf Courses - like the Old Course and just a neat old town- nice seafront with some ruins - home to famous university, Prince William went here.
Or by bus from Edinburg you can easiy day trip south to the Borders Abbey region - Melrose, jedburgh, etc and their famous old ruined for the most part abbeys (railpass not good on these buses, however)

No telling - some places don't release rooms early, others like to have rooms booked up early. But an advantage w/ bidding early is you can start out low. You might luck out and get something at a really good price. Then as it gets closer to the date you can tighten up your bidding.
I've pricelined London hotels more than 6 weeks out, and three days before my visit (I was REALLY nervous on that one ) .
