@flanner - you should not assume that the country in which people live is the (only) country of their citizenship. I am a dual UK and US national. I believe gertie is also a UK national. I entirely agree with you that the UK is left of the US - and your assumption that I support "anti-poor orthodoxies" has no basis whatsoever.

Also, your definition of fascist seems entirely off base. There are several adjectives that might apply to criticizing the election results in another country (never happened over US elections, of course) but fascist is not one of them.

BTW a gated estate is a large house surrounded by a fence with a gate to get in that can be locked - a secure gate - not a gated community which is a whole different thing.
