UK in November?
 

We're planning a week-long trip to the UK the first week in November. Where are we mostly likely to get the better weather conditions: Lake Distrct, Isle of Skye area or around Dartmoor? Not looking for perfect weather that time of year, just where we might have the best of November conditions.

My wife and I went to London a few years back the first 10 days of November.<BR><BR>The weather was delightful, highs in the upper 50's and low 60's and not one drop of rain the entire time!<BR><BR>I'd say though that its the luck of the draw!<BR><BR>US

All three are pretty remote, and all three are essentially outdoors/nature/scenery destinations. Even if you have good weather, sunset comes VERY early in November - what are you going to do with all of those hours of darkness? Sit in a pub for 6 hours until bedtime?<BR><BR>Why not choose someplace where you'd at least have an alternative if the weather turns bad? For example the Cotswolds, with Bath, Oxford, etc close by.

We were in Cornwall in late October a few years ago with delightful weather. That doesn't mean it would always be so but the south has better odds than the north.<BR><BR>We stayed a few nights at a B&amp;B in Exeter and a few in East Looe. The B&amp;B in Looe was on the cliff overlooking the ocean and we went to bed with the moonlight reflecting off the water and awoke to a glorious sunrise. Brrrrrrrrr! For tyhe chance of better weather, head south to Dartmoor. It may be just about bearable there. But the Lakes or Skye in November? Never!!<BR><BR>Dr Sawyers had the best idea - head for somewhere less remote, but bordering on countryside. The weather can be awful in November.

I agree that those sort of places can be pretty miserable in November. It gets dark quite early and the weather can be miserable. Personally, I'd go no later than the beginning of October.

For certainty of weather, and believe none of it is certain! go for Dartmoor

The weather in Nov can be wonderful, or truly horrible, or both -- during the SAME week.<BR><BR>The days are not as short as in late December. That being said - the farther north the shorter the days. The longer days and chances of decent weather are better in the south.<BR><BR>I have stayed a week in Jan. in South Devon a couple of times, and in Dartmoor in Oct once and loved all three trips. (I have been to Scotland in Nov several times as well) Instead of staying IN Dartmoor, I would stay on either the south or north Devon coasts and tour Dartmoor by car.

If you like visiting castles and stately homes you should be aware that some close for the winter in mid-October or early November. This certainly applies to National Trust properties. So if you base your choice on a particular destination, do check that it will still be open. <BR><BR>City attractions (museums, cathedrals, concerts etc) will be much less prone to this problem as these things are generally open year-round.
