UK fuel prices
 

Just heard on NPR that auto gas prices in Britain are double+ what we're seeing in the US.

Over $10 a gallon for gasoline, over $11 for diesel.

makes taking the train much more viable economically as U.K. has some of the cheapest train fares in Europe along with some of the most expensive as well

Byzantine pricing structure but can travel by train extremely cheap

At the Esso station nearest to us in Maidenhead, diesel is £1.24 per liter.

Are you aware that the U.K. gallon is 25% bigger than the US gallon.?
My U.K. friends tell me that £5.25 per gallon is the approximate price at the moment. That would make it £4.20 per US gallon or about $8.20 depending on the rate of conversion for the pound. The sooner the US starts to pay this price for its gas the better off the world will be.

today is 114.2 p/litre

1 litre = .26 U.S. gal
1 litre - .22 U.K. gal

seems to be about $9/ U.S. gal

So much of the price of fuel in the UK is tax, the way I figure it, prices there appear to have gone up about 20% from what I payed in Scotland last June, compared to the doubling in prices that we have seen here in the US.

While PalQ might have posted the average prices in England/UK, where I live in a rural area 30 miles from the nearest big city, we are paying more than that - even at the Tesco supermarket garage. This evening it was 117.9p a litre for petrol and 126.9p for diesel.

It is a few more pence than that at the local BP pumps, at Q8 and at Total- all local garages, who all manage to be around the same price(though if I spend more than £20 at Waitrose I get a coupon giving me 2p a litre off at Q8). At my local village garage, which I really should make more use of, they are charging over 130p for diesel, so I don't go there which is a sad thing because they need the custom more than the garages in the small town a few miles down the hill where the prices are lower.

And BTW, my rural area is the Cotswolds - prime tourist country.
