Let us suppose this conversation were going to be, not between a border agent and traveler (be it the OP or that young woman who posted back in October), but between the same women and a date they are meeting for the evening. What would people think of the following advice given to the women:

"Be sure to erase any evidence from your laptop that contradicts your maintaining to him you are single."

"Update any documentation you have so as to erase any evidence that you were once married."

Perhaps I am cynical, but if the intentions are honourable; if there is no intention to deceive, then why give tips on how to practice the art?

It's not as if mere grumpy border agents are all that is impeding this relationship. Long distance relationships even within the same country are problematic, and definitely problematic between young people who are still charting the course of their lives. It is hard, at the best of times, to get to truly know a person and determine if they are right for one.

You didn't ask, erudy2, but I'm going to state it: I think you should consider that managing a domestic investment portfolio is challenging enough for a novice, before taking on foreign markets.
