Ufizzi and Accademia audio tours?
Can I rent audio tours at the Ufizzi and Accademia? Please tell me if anyone has rented them, and would recommend this. Also, how much do they cost? and are doubles available? If we reserve times in advance for these museums, will we still have to wait in some kind of line to get in? Also, can anyone recommend a nice restaurant near the Accademia for dinner? Thanks so much, I am in the final stages of planning my August trip to Italy.

You can rent audio tours at the Uffizi. I don't know about the Accademia. They aren't expensive and yes, they are worth it. For some reason I remember 5 Euro but I could be wrong. If you arrive at the door at the time of your reservation, no you won't have to wait. If you arrive early, they may make you wait....that is if there's a line. As for the Accademia, I have been there sometimes when there isn't a line. If you stay in that area, you shouldn't have a problem finding a good restaurant. I always tell people to wander out of the section from the Duomo to the Ponte Vecchio. That's usually too expensive and the food isn't as good as out of the area. The locals will tell you that also.

Thank you for your help. That information is very useful.

We rented audioguides at both the Uffizi and Accademia - Ann1 is correct, they're somewhere between 5 and 10 Euros each. I also recall that they rent doubles - but don't recall that price.
We had reservations at each - at the Uffizi we went right in. At the Accademia, there was a line on one side of the door for non-reservation holders (really long), and a line for people with reservations on the other side of the door (maybe 20 people deep, but much smaller than the other line). They only allowed a small number of people in at a time and alternated between each line. The security checkpoint was rather slow and I suppose this was to keep the area from getting overcrowded. |
while I can't speak to the audio tours, we used Rick Steve's "Mona Winks" guidebook for its tours of the Accademia and the Ufizzi. I really find his walking tours of the great museums useful, and entertaining.

Wow. You have all been very helpful. I am going to call for reservations for both museums, and also rent the audios. I am going to research the Steves walking tours too. Thanks everyone!

wetravel, we had a really excellent meal at the restaurant right on Piazza San Marco just around the corner from the Accademia. The name is something (Restaurante, Osteria ??) San Marco.
Really good food in an informal setting. Have fun. |
