Uffizi - visit early or late in the day?

When visiting the Uffizi, is it better to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon? My inclination is to go in the morning, but I would love to hear from anyone who has had a good experience going in the late afternoon/early evening. We will have Firenze cards, so we don't have to worry about reservations - at least I hope that is true.

hi clareita,

i can only tell you about our experience of going early, which was that it was busy, but not overwhelmingly so. groups will obviously be in evidence but they quickly pass by leaving you alone again. we found that it was nice to have a late breakfast in the museum cafe [surprisingly cheap!] and then plunge back into the fray.

I went in the afternoon (4pm) and it was fine, still busy but not crazy busy ( except for the massive 2 hour queue outside!!!!)
