Uffizi or Galleria Dell'Accademia
 

I have a day a a half in Florence and do not know if there will be enough time to see both of these museums and still get to SEE Florence as well. If you had to choose, which one? Or---is there time to see both?

You have time to see both. Florence is very compact. I suggest you book tickets ahead of time to avoid waiting in line to buy them. Also, check the museum web sites for late openings - that will give you more time.

If you can't get tickets ahead the best time to go is around 4:30 when the tour buses depart. I've gone right into the Accademia at that time - no line. And during Holy Week when the waiting line for the Uffize was 2.5 to 3 hours during most of the day I only waited 15 minutes to buy a ticket (at 6:00).

If you can't get to both then unless you must see "The David" then the Uffizi is definitely the more spectacular and would be my first choice by a long shot.

You can see them both in a day. If you push it, you can do all of the main sights in a day.

You should try to do both. Try to find 2-3 hours to spend at the Uffizi. If you have to limit your time at the Accademia, you can see the David and Michelangelo's prisoners in a half hour. For me, David just can't be missed.

My answer would be to see David + the Uffizi...don't spend a lot of time wandering the Accademia. And FYI, we had to wait 45 minutes for an audioguide at the Accademia, although I assume that's not the norm. I'd do the Accademia first, because if you have extra time after the museums, the area around the Uffizi is a nicer place to hang around. You can go across the Ponte Vecchio and hike up Boboli Gardens for a nice view of the city. Have fun!

I misread your post--I thought you had a half day. You'll have PLENTY of time to see both!
