What is the best way to avoid the wait/lines to get in the Uffizi Museum ?

Sory I went looking for tinyurl and accidently posted the long link. I had no problems using the phone to make the reservations. I think it is an
extra 3 euro for both museums to reserve.

Uffizi and Academia Museum Reservations
The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 1016868 (dial around number), 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 3 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.

You will not be charged for the reservations unless you use them.

ira has it right. The phone approach works well. We completed the whole transaction in about 2 minutes.

One note (not that you'd ever make this mistake): I've seen several posts here complaining that no one answers the phone. In most of those instances, the callers failed to realize that they had to time the calls to match local Florence time, not their own time.

Even easier is to have your hotel do it for you. Most will offer this complimentary service. Just as Ira describes, except the hotel makes the arrangements. They will usually do the Uffizi and the Accademia, for both of which you need reservations.

You might want to post another question: On what days or at what times are you least liely to encounter large guided tours?

We had a 4 pm Sunday reservation and we wove in and out of several very large guided tour groups. We didn't think this would be a problem so late in the day, but it was. I bet at opening time would be the best-it takes large groups a bit of time to meet, etc....if you even got a 15 minute head start on them, it would be no problem.

And just in case you are in babymoon - no need to book priorly. Go there and just tell them you're pregnant, they will let you in! Very civilized....
