Would kids (ages 6&10) do okay on a tour of the Uffizi and the Accedemia? Thanks for advice?

Honestly, it depends on the kids, but I'd say the Accademia is a better bet than the Uffizi, the latter I find to be user-unfriendly even for grownups.

The draw at the Accademia is Michelangelo's David and Slaves/Prisoners. David is literally monumental, and even though it currently has some scaffolding around it I think anyone can appreciate it.
These are on the main floor of the museum. Order timed tickets in advance (your hotel can do it) to avoid a long line.

The Uffizi in my experience was crowded, poorly lit, and with essentially no captions or labels or signs in English. Lots of stairs, no elevator. It has gorgeous art, but quite frankly I couldn't wait to leave.

Ditto about the reserved timed ticket.

The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 1.60 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.

I think most kids would be bored silly at the Uffizi, but agree they could do okay for a quick trip to the Accademia. One day outside the Uffizi they had the white statue people dressed as famous artists, (Anyone know what they are called?) and you could take your photo with them. They would love that.

I would check outside the Uffizi. The day we were there they had the statue people mentioned above, plus a few other interesting things. I loved it and I'm pretty much more kid than grown-up!

I agree that young kids would be bored to death in the Uffizi. At the same time, it is perhaps the world's greatest medium-sized museum--I can't think of any others with more masterpieces per square foot. If you enjoy art, I hope you have a chance to spend two hours there, which is enough time to get the essence.

I agree with Joe, it is worthwhile seeing, even if you just walk through with the kids-

We only had 90 minutes to see it and still enjoyed it, we went at the very end of the day....
