Uffizi Gallery Florence - Sold out the day we're there???
I'm trying to make a reservation for the Uffizi gallery through www.weekendafirenze.com when I'm there in the middle of October however when I try to enter in the date, it says "Museum sold out." Does this mean reserved tickets are sold out but I can still wait in line for the tickets when I get there???

Weekendinfirenze is a commercial booking service and you will be paying more for the reservations than you should or need to. You should call the booking line for the musueam yourself. They can also tell you if your day is indeed sold out.
From the US, call 011 39 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time, at least a day before your visit and ideally at least a few days in advance for a better selection. Florence is 6 hours ahead of EST. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes you'll get an entry slot (15-min window) and a six-digit confirmation number. Using the same phone number, you can reserve in advance for the Accademia, Bargello, Medici Chapels, and Pitti Palace; of these, the Accademia has the worst lines. The booking fee is 1.60. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services. If you show up for your reserved time and there is no line, you can just buy the entry ticket and you don't have to pay the 1.60 booking fee. |
Hi sf,
Cicerone is right. |
Thank you so much and thanks for saving me some $$!
|
if i miss my reservation time or i want to change the time, would they allow it if i call ahead? thanks
|
If you call ahead you can change the date and time of your visit as many tmes as you want (have done this myself several times). If you are in town and can't or don't make it to the museum on your appointed date and time altogether, it won't cost you anything, as you don't pay the booking charge unless and until you pick up and pay for the admission tickets.

Cicerone, I had been thinking about making my reservations for my stay in Florence from Dec. 31 - January 4. Do you think it's a good idea to make reservations for that time period? I had heard it might be less necessary in winter. But based on what you've said, maybe I should and then just not use the reservation.

January 3 is a Monday and the Uffizi and Accadmia are closed. All the Florence museums will be closed on January 1, and possibly January 2, and may close early on December 31. Therefore, your available days to get into the museums are few. I would make the reservation as it doesn't cost anything other than the phone call if you end up not needing it. Also, the operators can confirm what days the museums are closed.
