Uffizi facilities

At home, my wife and I can visit our art museum and spend all day their, eating lunch in their restarurant.

We will be visiting Florence, and from their web-site, it is clear that there is so much in the Uffizi Gallery that we would want to spend the whole day there, too.

Do they have somewhere there where you can get lunch without leaving? Also, since this is such a popular site, do they rush you through, or can you travel at your own pace?

I was there about 5 years ago, so I'm afraid the info isn't up to date, but I can remember a cafe that served lunch on the top floor on the wing of the "U" opposite the entrance. I seem to recall an outside verandah with tables and chairs.

There's a nice cafe on there with a view over the piazza.

You can go at your own pace. Do take advantage of the pre-booking service to get tickets ahead of time so you don't have to stand in a 2-hour line.

I have been to the Uffizi twice. There It isn't big. It will only take a couple of hours using the headset. At most if you really want to wander it will take a 1/2 day. It's one floor plus a small exhibit on another floor. yes it does have a lovely cafe with a view above the roof tops. And, yes, contact your hotel ahead of time and ask them to make reservations for you.

The cafe at Uffizi is rather famous for being VERY overpriced and for serving very low quality food. Better to bring your own food and water from outside.

I just ate at the cafe two weeks ago and the food was fine, nothing fancy, but acceptable.

I do think the Uffizzi a small and that 4 hours would be a long time to spend there.

The food in the cafe was fine, just try to go at a little bit off time, or you will have to wait for a table. We went a little early for lunch and were seated right away, it is lovely to sit outside and linger over cafe or vino. The food is not gourmet, but fine and not overpriced considering where you are and the view.

The Uffizi may be small if all you want to do is walk through every room, but it does have a stunning amount of world-famous works. Personally, I get brain-fried and foot-tired after about 3 hours in any museum, but if William and his wife spend the entire day at their local art museum, they are likely to do the same at the Uffizi. They may want to sit for an hour in the Botticelli room, for example.

Beth, what can I say? Probably the perception of wht is good food and what is bad foiod in your opinion and in most of the Italian people opinion is not the smae. Theonly time I bought something at the cafe in Uffizi, I just bought a bottle of water and the price was so high that I ended up leaving it and drinking from a restroom tap. The food that was displayed looked like if seeing a beetle still alive among it could at least show that it wasn't poisonous. Most of the Italian people who had the bad idea of getting something from their cafe will moreor less say the same, there were even press releases about how wildly overpriced the food is, especially if compared to the quality (I remember a particularly venomenous article on the Italian travel once magazine now site Sandokan - www.sandokan.it).

Alice, the food is not great, but we had sandwiches delivered from the waitress which may be different from what you were having. I know gourmet food, believe me, and it isn't, but the sandwich was fine and along with coffee it was a nice way to spend a lunch break. You aren't there for the food per se anyway, but to enjoy the view and take a rest from enjoying the museum. And, yes, I could stay in the museum all day, but then I took art appreciation courses and wanted to absorb all I could, and so I needed the lunch break.
