UEFA cup final - Seville

Just a word of advice for anyone planning to be in Seville around 21st May. This is the day of the cup final between Glasgow Celtic and Porto and the city will be full of football fans. It's thought that around 50,000 fans will be travelling from Glasgow alone even though only half that number will have tickets. There shouldn't be any trouble but the crowds might make some tourists feel uncomfortable. Scottish fans are usually good-natured when abroad (unlike certain other countries!) and I don't think the Portuguese have a bad reputation either so it should be a fun occasion.

That bit about so many Glasgow fans traveling to Seville, even though they didn't have tickets, just so they could be in the same city as their team, was noted in an article about Celtic in one of our local papers today.

The article also says "Happily, unlike the notorious English traveling fans who have brought the game into disrepute, the Celtic hordes leave smiling faces as a memory of their travels, even when the club loses."

"Celtic Pride: Global appeal not limited to Manchester United: It's more than simply being a fan. It's about politics, religion, fashion, passion and so much more."

Celtic is playing Manchester United in Seahawks Stadium tomorrow, part of a four-city, two-week tour through the United States by United. The article says that United is "arguably the most popular sports franchise in the world."

The following story MAY be apocryphal. A Celtic fan was spotted oustide Seville after the game seeking to hitchhike north. A car covered in green and white scarves stopped to offer him a lift.

"Whaur ye gaun, boays?" says the hitchhiker (Where are you going- for the uniligual amongst you).

"Paisley" (10 miles south of Glasgow)says the driver. "Want a lift?" "Nah" , says the hitchhiker; "Ah'm gaun tae Kirkintilloch" (10 miles north of Glasgow)and he walks on with his thumb stuck out behind him....

Pretty funny, Sheila.

Unfortunately for Glasgow, they lost to Manchester 4-0.

66,722 fans, a record crowd at year-old Seahawks Stadium,

"Manchester United as mighty as advertised"

Believe me I know what the result was!!

What about the boy in the Rangers' strip supporting Celtic. Surreal or what?
