U S Airways FF miles
Need help redeeming US Air FF miles for use on a partner airlines.
I am about fly to England for a 3 week vacation using my Delta FF miles and am afraid my US Air FF miles will be gone by the time I return. I noticed that Topman was able to redeem his US Air FF miles on 9/12 for use on a partner airline for a flight on a later date. I would like to do the same thing but I haven't had much luck using the US Air internet. I depart on Wednesday so I only have 2 days to obtain tickets on a companion airline for a flight next year. It is a case of 'use them or lose them'. |
Can't you just call USAIR and make the transaction?

<<I haven't had much luck using the US Air internet...>>
What help could it be that "we" could offer? In addition to the advice to use the telephone, try a diffeent origination, a different destination or different dates. Or were you were thinking that someone here can volunteer..."oh, okay, I know the president of USAir personally, and I will call him at his home for you tonight, on a Sunday..." I just don't understand what assistance is being sought. Best wishes, Rex |
You need to call USAir.
I booked tickets this past week using my USAir miles on United & Lufthansa. I was able to get first Class tickets without difficulty. Your miles will probably not be gone in 3 weeks. However many award seats may be gone. |

Thank You. This being Sunday I can't contact anyone with US Air but I will try first thing Monday morning to get seats n United. |
Besides UA and LH, you can also fly to Europe with US Dividend Miles on the other Star Alliance airlines:
Austrian LOT Polish BMI SAS Air Canada Singapore (from JFK to FRA) So, know your alternatives, which will help you greatly and save your time when you call Dividend Miles' agent. Don't assume you can't go to Europe just because there are no seats on UA/LH. |
I was able to redeem my miles (as was referenced above) on SUNDAY, the 12th..a few hours before the bankruptcy announcement. I called USAirways about 4:00 AM EDT. The reason I called them was the fact that I was booking on a partner airline (United in this case) AND I was booking an open jaws itinerary which you cannot do on the website.
I had several backup plans in mind in case my original request was unavailable and in this case, it was not available (I wanted to return from Athens to Dulles on Lufthansa but no seats were available and this was for August 2005). So, I ended up booking IAD to CDG in mid-July 2005 with a return from Heathrow. I plan to fly from Athens to Gatwick (on Easyjet)the afternoon prior to the return, transfer to Heathrow where I'll spend the night (yes, I already have the hotel reservation) and fly back to IAD the next morning. I feel fortunate to have been able to use up pretty much the remaining balance of my miles which were earned, mainly, through us of a BofA credit card. I've since switched all my spending to a Capital One card and those miles are easier to redeem but the redemption is strictly based on price of ticket. I agree you should call USAirways and keep doing so until you get through. Have several flight options in mind when you do get through. By the way, the USAirways stock is about to be "de-listed" so things are looking pretty bad. Good luck. |
I want to thank TopMan,Dick, and rkkwan for their assistance. I had been trying for 2 days to get through to US Airways and was put on hold because of the backlog of requests. I finally got through tonight at 11 PM Pacific time (I depart San diego for Manchester at 6 AM tomorrow)and was able to obtain 2 seats on a companion airline (United)for next April/May. The US Airline agent was most helpful and it only took about 5 minutes to reserve the seats. I took the advice of the aforementioned and printed out the proposed airline flight schedule in advance of making my call.I got exactly what I hoped for on the dates I wanted. I was able to use up 100,000 US Air Preferred Miles that I thought were 'gonners' I am leaving for 3 weeks in England in 6 hours so that is cutting it close! Thanks Again To all. |
GREAT news and enjoy your trip!

Don, you may retract your thank you after reading this.
According to many of the posters on flyertalk.com, tickets may not necessarily be honored by Star Alliance airlines is USAir liquidates. They say the the other airlines don't get there money from USAIr until after you fly in May. However, this is all speculation..since no one knows for sure. Since I am also holding tix for May on Alliance partners, I hope that they are wrong. |
