<Walkinaround mode on>

Does this mean that the last thing people will see when leaving England, is a giant Horse's a*** - How appropriate.

I wonder which politician will be brave enough to open it and pose for a nice photo...

Depends whether they stand at the front

or the back

though I rather suspect we can all think of the Royal that's most likely to...

I wonder if in time there will be a market for a "Horsebum View" B&B?>

Or a White Horse Pub - one of many i would think in the U.K.

No matter what it looks like i applaud the government for funding public art like this.

A new career for Nona maybe :)

"The wing and dish was my least favourite option - looked like a telecoms company logo to me."

Indeed it does--"with our roaming charges, watch your money fly away!"

An apt reminder for mobile-addicted Europeans traveling from one country to another

>>Or a White Horse Pub - one of many i would think in the U.K.<<

Oddly enough, it appears the surrounding area doesn't already have a White Horse pub.

Hmmm - <b>The Horse's Arse</b> has a certain rustic authenticity to it...

A Fitting Touch for This Colossus Work of Public Art

-a take off on the Czech dude's recent installation of Europe at the EC in Brussels

Yes behind the Giant Stallion of the South will be a mess of horse dung fashioned into a European map - with all the countries except Britain would be missing.

Now that would convey quite a message, and a true one IMO, to arriving folks from the Continent.

Knock knock!
Who's there?
Maybe it's a big horse.
?
Maybe it's a big horse I'm a Londoner.......

On which note, it seems to me that if ever it gets built, there is an obvious musical offering for the inauguration ceremony:

Don't give up the day job, Patrick :-(

bilboburgler Feb 18th, 2009 03:19 AM

based on our usual opinions I had hoped that the horse's arse would have been pointed at France. Ho hum

nona1 Feb 18th, 2009 03:22 AM

Don't hold your breath about it anyway. I doubt it's going to be built. They are just applying for planning permission, haven't yet bothered to work out how it can actually be constructed, and they have no money for it. IT was planned to be in a residential/industrial redevelopment of the area, which has now been shelved due to the credit crunch.

Must be something cool about huge horse statues - Denver is erected a similar colossal steed on a road approach to the city - story in todays NYTimes.
