Two weeks in southern Italy and Malta in NOVEMBER - help!
 

I am traveling with my mom and my almost two-year old and we have two weeks in Italy. We want to see Pompei, Ischia, Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast and then spend about 5 days in Malta. I need help with a few things ...

(1) what is the best way to get around to all of these places, taking into consideration that we have a baby with us (I'm thinking a car is better?);

(2) How much time should we spend in each location? I know Pompei will be one full day and I'm assuming we should stay the night there since it's a long day?

(3) how long in Ischia, Positano, Sorrento and Amalfi Coast?

(4) Best way to get to Ischia and how long will it take? (Ferry I assume)

(5) Best way to get to Malta??

And, given we'll be there the last two weeks in Italy - are these all places to visit? THANK YOU FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!!

I think Pompeii is going to be tough with a 2 year old. Rough walking - you probably won't be able to wheel a stroller. Very little shade. The site is quite large. Herculaneum is easier to navigate as much of it is paved or dirt. It's smaller and easier for your child.

You could base yourself in Sorrento and do day trips to these places.

I'm not fond of coastal locations in late November (I assume you meant the last two weeks in November rather than the last two weeks in Italy). The weather will very well be rainy and foggy.

We did a similar trip years ago but visited Malta and Sicily. For your trip I found Air Malta fly to Naples which I think would be the closest airport for you to the Amalfi Coast. They also fly into Rome - and Catania in Sicily where we flew in and out of to Malta and back.

There is also a ferry to Malta but I believe it leaves from Pozzallo, at the bottom of Sicily, so a flight would be quicker and easier.

Hope you love Malta as much as we did, it seemed to us be a hidden gem in Europe. Not many people go there or seem to know about it but we thought it a wonderful country.

If you have not found a way to get to Malta from Italy/Sicily Virtu Ferries (http://www.virtuferries.com/) operate a catamaran service from Pozzallo (Sicily) They also have a shuttle service from Catania to Pozzallo.

If you are going to be in Italy than may be it is easiet to visit Malta by aeroplane. Almost all major airlines come to Malta. From Italy it is possible to fly with AirMalta, RyanAir and Alitalia but there are other airlines as well.
