UK drive week May Biddenden Kent
My wife and I, on a (frequent UK return) auto trip from the USA, will be based 8 nights in a Biddenden Kent self cater. This represents a generally new area for investigation and we'd appreciate any helpful insights relative to gardens, NT, Heritage or other sites, moderate in cost dining, as well as particularly compelling area villages. we've seven and a half days of self driving itineraries to put together.
Advice about any particular options or ideas would be much appreciated.

You will run out of days before you run out of things to see/do
Just a short list of places you could do as day trips:

Bayham Abbey
Great Dixter
Borde Hill
Hever
Penshurst Place
Chartwell
Knole
Igtham Mote
Rye
Dover Castle
Walmer Castle
Deal Castle
Canterbury
etc etc etc

You'll be very close to Sissinghurst, I'm sure you know. Start with the National Trust website. One of the things I like about their site is the information for "places nearby" on the page for any building, garden or other place of interest.
Here's Sissinghurst:

Now scroll down almost to the bottom for the "places nearby" feature. Map or list. You can continue this process as you go to the page for each place that interests you and find other wonderful nearby options. On the Sissinghurst "places nearby" list I'm especially fond of Bateman's.

If you go down to Rye go along to Dungeness too. It is an odd place but certainly worth the trip. http://www.dungeness.org.uk/what-to-see/

Folkestone has "moved on" a lot in recent years.
