The mayor of New York, Julianni (SP) said people are jumping out of the world trade center...
Yes, I voted for Bush. I am thankful I did.
Shanna, If you think it is "mean" or "vengeful" to protect the our innocent people, you are way off base.
I guess I could thank you for voting for that idiot Clinton who repeatedly ignored warnings that our airports and national security was in poor condition.

The Pentagon situation is now described as:
A "large" passenger plane crashed into the side of the outer ring of the Pentagon and plowed through the entire ring structure into the center. The earlier reports of a "commuter" plane are now somewhat in question.
Still belief there may be an unaccounted-for plane in the air, which will be shot down if/when located.

SOrry, kavey, i wasn't sure. Yes, I believe there are. This is what the terroists want. The u.s. to be left with no choice but to shoot down a plane with its own citizens in it. Not sure if it is going to or did happen... i'm losing my radio station. WHat's this about plane 5 crashing at the pentagon? That's two planes at the pentagon now?

Plane leaving Chicago crashed in PA near Pittsburgh (originally reported as a plane hijacked from Somerset County NJ, but Somerset County PA is where it crashed).
High security at all major historic and cultural sites in Phila.
Intermittent phone service at NJ state offices, and when phones are working, can't reach NYC #s.
Someone set up a TV in a meeting rm at work, and anyone interested can watch.

No, I didn't mean that Bush wouldn't be right in avenging - I mean that he is capable of it militarily where the Democrats would try to smarm their way out. Didn't vote for Clinton or Gore and despaired as they gutted our military. I'm very glad it's conservatives and not liberals in control right now. But I'll check out of this conversation for now and let the news come through.

All international flights were landing in Canada. Now Canada has closed all airports as well, as well as the CN Tower, all border crossing between US and Canada are closed.
I'm sitting here at work in Vancouver listening to the radio and I can't believe this. How are all these planes being hijacked?
My thoughts are with all our American Fodorites.

The war in the Middle East has finally hit our shores. Terrorists, by definition, don't follow "conventional" rules of war. They already hit the World Trade Center a number of years ago -- as well as U.S. military targets in the Middle East -- and I've long feared another, much more horrible, attack on American soil (though I assumed it might involve a nuclear weapon...and, who knows, one still may.)
What a horrible tragedy, and a very very sad day.

What a world disaster we are seeing before our eyes. As much as I was looking forward to going on vacation next month, I can't even think about it at the moment. I was in a meeting all morning, and since I heard over two hours ago, I have been shaking. All the lives lost, the lives disrupted, the possible future consequences for the U.S. and the rest of the world. Let me tell you, I have budgeting and planning to do for a meeting with my boss tomorrow. He is in New Hampshire and likely won't get home for a while, and business means absolutely zero right now. I am not a Bush fan, but all my support is with him right now, and I hope he gets all the great advice he needs to make some of the potentially toughest decisions faced by a U.S. president since Lincoln.
