Took these photos last week in Paris. Take a look. You'll see that black is NOT what they are wearing in Paris...

Hope the link works. By the way, I'd love to know what all these people were doing. There were literally a couple of thousand of them. That night they had a big party in front of Notre Dame. The boat ride was spotted the next day. I asked a couple of waiters, but they didn't know either. It was pretty humorous though!

Forget about the black, did you get a load of the shoes? I see a bunch of athletic shoes. These must be Americans, as we're often told here that ONLY Americans would wear tennis or athletic shoes in Paris. If only I could spot a baseball cap in the crowd, then I would KNOW they are all Americans.

WHERE did you guys get the notion that people in Paris wear black all the time? Of course, if it winter people would wear darker colours, but IN THE SUMMER??? BLACK??? Nowhere in Europe, unless you go to a funeral!

LOL Eloise.
My understanding was that black was particularly common in the fall/winter months just like here in the states.
What I'd like to know is, where's all the tangerine, lime and hot pink that's supposed to be so popular?
Maybe it's a medical staff convention, and the guy in the white terry robe is an escapee from the hospital, mental or otherwise...

I agree with Anouk, maybe you can find a black jeans (I wear them), or a black t-shirt but that's not the usual thing at all in France or in any other country in Summer In winter more dark colours are used, sure.

Actually, when I lived in Manhattan, many women wore black in the mad heat of July and August. Black is easy when you live in a large city--it is easy to coordinate, doesn't show the dirt, makes you look slimmer, makes you look sophisticated. Besides, you can cool yourself down a bit by wearing black linen, black tank top, black mini-skirt, etc.

Ha Patrick - You get it!
I really do wonder what they were doing though. We saw them all over the place. Then late that night they had set up all their tables in the park in front of Notre Dame and were having a picnic. There was also a band. I wonder if it was an internet meet up?!
