Can't help you between Niece and Florence. But, what's your schedule in Loire. I know some nice places in Amboise

artlover Apr 29th, 2003 07:45 PM

It depends what you like. If you love art, there are so many places around Nice to see, you could easily spend a week there and not see them all. Let us know.

Cinque terre. It is a long day on the train but is between nice and florence. Very beautiful.

Truckin_Bob Apr 29th, 2003 10:17 PM

Hey Zeke,
Don't really have a plan for Loire, tell me more!!! Did you like the place you stayed?

Truckin_Bob Apr 29th, 2003 10:26 PM

Debbier....
My previous thought was to do the Cinque Terra as a long one day trip out of Florence after reading Bob the Navigator(I think) on this site who described a long but fun sounding ferry trip that stops in 4 of the 5 towns that starts and ends in Portovenere. My current thought may lean your direction.
Would you book it or just show up and find out whats available?
Thanks for your response

Dear Artlover,

We too love art. With our three days (and maybe 1 or 2 more) in that region what are your top choices for fellow artlovers?
Thanks for responding!

Is it possible for you to rearrange things to add a day to Venice? 2 days aren't enough unless you just want to see the highlights from the Rialto to P. San Marco.

I totally agree with Rufus AND Artlover (and you). With your 2 extra days I would add a day to Venice and one day to Nice & do Cinque Terre out of Florence. Or add 2 days to Venice!Places to see around Nice

St Paul de Vence & Fondation Maeght
Vence & Matisse Chapel
Biot old town, glass blowing factory & Leger museum
Antibes, Cap D'Antibes & Picasso Museum
Cap Ferrat & Villa Ephrussie
Beaulieu & Villa Kyrlos
Villefranche
Monaco
Menton-Cocteau museum & tropical gardens
Cagnes sur Mer & Haut Cagnes & Renoir house
Eze & tropical gardens

And there's still Nice (Chagall museum), Cannes & perhaps St Tropez to see!
What a fabulous trip you have planned.

We stayed in an Inn in Amboise, named the Manor Le Minimes. It was fabulous. The best place we stayed on this trip. The town was great and it is a great location in the region. I could have spent the whole vacation there. The Inn is on the review nest to the Chateau Amboise (a castle really). There is a great mix of scenery, history and shopping.

Sorry I should review before I post. It is on the river next to the Chateau

Hey Bob--Bob here !
No doubt in my mind--do the Cinque Terre. You have 2 good options for locations--both of which give you the ferry boat option to see the coast and hop off at will. Monterosso is the first option--the largest of the 5 villages and has parking. The other is of course, Portovenere. It is my fav but has the disadvantage of no train option in case of bad weather or high seas. However, you can drive to Riomaggiore from there and then train to any of the villages. Good luck !

Dear Truckin Bob,

Wow--mclaurie did a great job of covering many of the places. A few I would add--if you're a big Picasso fan (which I am)check out the chapel at Musee National Picasso in Ville de Vallauris, Golfe-Juan and a small but wonderful photography gallery in the old city of Mougin (make sure you climb to the top for incredible views of the town). Also in Nice are the Contemporary Art Museum (hope the rooftop is open now--wasn't last time I was there and the views from here are great) and the Matisse Museum.

But with limited time, I'd suggest not missing the Chagall Museum in Nice.

So many great choices! Let us know all about your trip when you get back. Have a wonderful time.

I'd add the 2 days, and make it 4 in Venice, later in the trip. Amazing city and only two days wouldn't be enough for my taste, or should I say... to taste Venice!

Thanks everybody!!!!!!!
I'm all set to go and have some fun.
In the end we rearranged Nice forward two days and shortened it by a day in favor of a few days in Provance.
I'll get in touch when I get home.
Again, thanks, and keep on Truckin'
