two days in Nice

Can anyone recommend a specific relatively inexpensive two bedroom hotel or apartment in Nice for a two-day stay around the middle of April? It's my first time visiting that part of France and your help is greatly appreciated. We just want to be somewhere near the beach and other sites.

What price do you consider to be "relatively inexpensive" ?

I'm sure you know that you can search by price (and many other variables) on booking.com.

I stayed near the train station in Nice when I visited last May. But I was planning to do day trips by train anyway so that made more sense to me. If I were staying right in Nice without desire to go anywhere and just hang out in Nice itself, I'd choose a place in the old town area (not far from the beach) - I'd go on Booking.com and use the map feature to find a few places in my price range. Of course, expect prices to be higher there; one reason I choose to stay near the train station was to save money. (For what it's worth, there is a modern tram with frequent service traveling to and from the area near the train station and the old town.)

For a really unique experience, consider the Hotel Solara. But you MUST get a room with terrace. The rooms are small, but the terraces look out over the Rue de France - - a pedestrian zone with cafes, bars, restaurants, and often street music. It's such great atmosphere, to sit on your terrace, have a coffee or a picnic, and partake of the life down below. If you don't get a room with a terrace, you may as well stay just about anywhere budgety.

Oh, and the Solara is a block from the beach: http://www.hotelsolara.com/

And the Solara is a short walk from both the tram and the buses. Cheap and cheerful, but basic.
