The Naples National Archaeological Museum has a lot of the stuff from Pompeii and is worth a visit. There is a older part of town near the waterfront castle which has a great cafe for people watching its the
Gran Caffè Gambrinus at Via Chiaia, 1-2 next to Piazza Plebescito. From there you can explore some of the older streets and shops. You can take the tram up the hill for stunning views of the bay of Naples and don't laugh the National Museum of Capodimonte is not bad either. There are numerous churches, ect. that you will find in your wanderings you could kick back and take a trip to Ischia for the spas sometimes doing nothing on a trip is great. |
Recommendation would be to definitely visit the Archelogical Museum. Secondly, follow the Rick Steves walking tour of the city. The area around the seafront is lovely. Anywhere you stop to eat will be good!
There are several day trip options if you want to explore outside of Naples. ENJOY! |
The archeological museum is a must, as is eating lots of good food! These trip reports might give you some good ideas:

I've always wanted to go here:
http://www.museosansevero.it/inglese/index_ing.html to see the amazing sculptures. How can marble look like this? As others have said, don't miss the Archeological Museum, one of my favorite museums anywhere. The items from Pompeii are extraordinary. And of course there is Pompeii itself if you haven't been there. |
Hi r,
>...engaging ourselves....< I think that you can do that without help from us. :) My "must sees" are the "Veiled Christ" at the Capella Sansevero http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cappella_Sansevero Archaeological Museum My Lady Wife liked a stroll along the waterfront. ((I)) |
