Two days in Dublin

We are planning to spend two days in Dublin before heading out to see the country with a group. Any suggestions on how to best spend our time there?

You might want to do a hop on hop off bus first day. Guinness is a must see, the bar at the top is great. Christ Church or St Patricks, Dublin Castle, Chester Beatty library, Trinity College. Collins Barracks/National Museum. Grafton St, Temple bar, St Stephen's Green, Glasnevin if you are interested in history. I could go on and on.

phillychic, did you book your hotel yet? Where do you meet your tour group?

Flpab, I could use some accommodation suggestions for Dublin. We will be visiting Dublin for 2 days before we fly home in mid September. I would like to stay somewhere within a 10-15 walk to the City Center and for around $125 per night or less.

Thanks for yours and anyone else suggestions!

Harding, Buswells, jury Inn Christchurch, new Travelodge over by St Stephen's green. I have stayed twice closer to Temple Bar but no sleep. We are renting apartment next trip on Cow lane. My friend who is meeting us there is staying at the Arlington close by. Not sure how it is but will know in May. She has stayed at Handel something also. On my phone or would check and like it but full this trip. Across from Christ Church.

George Frederic Handel, duh, should have known that.

Flpab, have you stay at either Jury Inn Christchurch or Buswells? I like the look and location of these two and them
seem to have good reviews.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Buswells was where we stayed. Great old building, wonderful staff, incredible atmosphere and the national legislature is across the street, so lounge is filled with pols.

We walked everywhere- wonderful.

St. Audeon's church is the only remaining medieval parish church in Dublin-free.

Christchurch cathedral was very nice and the site of The Tudors series.

The National History Museum and National Library are all across the street from Bushnells.

Fitzwilliam Sq & St. Stephens Green with wonderful Georgian front doors--notice how the windows get smaller and narrower as stories rise.

Certainly the Book of Kells at Trinity College. You can also get your shield and history of your family name at the end of the tour.

St. Michaels church has a crypt in the basement and a gory story is involved.

The Marsh Library (M-W-F 10-1245, 2-5 and Sat 10-1245) was FABULOUS! Irelands oldest library, 25,000 leather bound books on very high shelves. Books were so precious, readers were locked in with them in caged alcoves and books chained to the walls to prevent theft. Can still be seen.

We had 3 days of great weather, but I always plan for rainy day activities.

Out of Dublin--took the bus to Malahide- a wonderfull castle started around 1200 and stayed in the family until 1976. Built on by family members you can see every style as the tour moves through the oldest castle in Ireland.

jan47ete; Thanks for your comments and letting know about Buswells, how was your room size? Did you have any problems
with noise.

Room was on 2nd floor and no problem with noise. Nice large window and big bathroom. Really enjoyed staying there as it was a great location for walking, transportation and sightseeing.

Really nice W. B. Yeats display in the National Library. And the restrooms (at least the ladies') are impressive.

We too liked Chester Beatty.

Not sure when you will be there but we did Trinity College B&B.
