Two bedroom/two bathroom Suite in Rome?
 

The trip is coming along! Thanks to all of your help we found a perfect boutique hotel in Barcelona
(finding a triple bed hotel room was harder than I thought!) and just secured our penthouse apartment in Villa Sabrina Relais in Sorrento (grazie mille to Sassafrass!). The last leg of our trip will have us in Rome for four nights. I would like something boutiquey OR something very old and grand and preferably a suite if possible. Something in an area that will make it very easy to walk to many of the major sites. Does anything come to mind? I'd like to pay about 600 euro per night for a suite or 250 for individual rooms.

Westin Excelsior has at least one beautiful and elegant 2 bedroom suite that my family stayed in for 12 nights. Each bedroom has its own bath and they are connected by a very sizeable living room with two little balconies. Ours was on the corner so we had wonderful views towards the Gallery Borghese and up the Via Veneto.

Sold out. Alas. But thank you so much.

lahawk: Are you sure you mean the Westin Excelsior? I'm pretty darn sure two bedroom suites at the Excelsior are not w i/i the OP's budget -- like €3000 and up per night. (and way up)

Two bedroom and two bath suites are pretty scarce on the ground and 600 euros won;t get you one in a grand hotel in a central location. That's more th price of the most basic room.

I would look for two separate rooms - much easier to find, and while not as roomy as a suite, you have much better chance of finding something pleasant (grand won;t fit it) and central.

Do you have any favorites? The Barocco looked nice and price was great, but rooms seem so small.

You mentioned an old building. Have you considered an apartment? Some require five nights, so that could be an issue and you would not have the services of a hotel, but you might find something unique and special.

A huge favourite of mine - may fit your budget but not sure about the suite with two bathrooms. You'll probably get one bathroom.

The Hotel Forum that Blueeyedcod mentions has what what they call 'family rooms' which are two bedroom/2 bath units that do fit well w/i your budget.

Nytraveler must run in different circles than I do. I've been to Rome more times than I can count, and I've never spent as much as €250 for a room. I wouldn't be able to come here anywhere as often as I do, if it cost that much.

At the moment I'm sitting in a single room that's costing me €62 a night. It's rather basic, in the IKEA style, but clean and comfortable, and has efficient air conditioning, a lift, a fridge, and a shiny new bathroom. The very helpful people at the reception even lent me a charger for my phone, because I brought the wrong charger. I think double rooms were €82 here. It's near the train station, but I've stayed in hotels all over Rome, some quite charming, and I would say that the cost of a clean, comfortable double room needn't be more than about €150.

Sassafrass, I am so happy you chimed in! I was looking through old threads last night and saw some recommendations for apartments "through" hotels: Modigliani, Othello? I have to look into it a bit better today. I'd love to find the equivalent of what you found for me in Sorrento! The urban, cosmopolitan version, of course ;)

I feel like I should stay in the Piazza Navona area just to make things simple. Reader comments sometimes mention that it is very noisy though and all the comments seem to suggest the rooms are very, very small. While I won't be in my room much other than to sleep, the idea of having to store my luggage in the bathroom (I read this in a few reviews!) because of confines is a bit unappealing!

I don't want to use busses and trains so the idea of staying near the train station doesn't appeal to me. Walking and taxis are preferable as my 70 year old parents will be with me. Other than taking the train up to Florence for the day ( I think I told you that no matter where we are in Italy, my husband has to visit Florence!) I will be focusing on the typical tourist sites in Rome as it is my 11 year old's first time and I haven't been there since I was 12 years old! And I am 43 now!

Very excited and want to get this last part of the trip squared away.

The OP didn't ask for "clean and comfortable". They asked for something "very old and grand" and located in the center.

There are obviously very pleasant hotels for much less than that - but if one is looking for a "grand dame" hotel in a central location it will not be cheap.

You are correct, nytraveler. This trip, a very celebratory one, requires something a bit more than "clean and comfortable". Not that I have anything against "clean and comfortable": in my twenties and as a newlywed that was all I requested. Now I need something a tad more luxurious of which to dream when I am working my grueling weeks. I work hard and hope to play a tiny bit harder ;)

The Russie looks amazing. So does the Minerve. But those are TOO grand budget wise. Something somewhere in the middle leaning more towards this side.

Consider the Hotel Albergo del Senato, we stayed in their penthouse suite and really enjoyed it. It has a nice balcony and a view of the pantheon.

I will warn you their breakfast is awful and their coffee is really bad.

I would agree with the del Senato if you can get the type of room, or rooms, you want. We like the location and felt it was a much better deal than the Minerve.

Try navona gallery and garden suites. We will be there this summer. Looks quite nice.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Adriano last year. It's not grand, but definitely very nice. Our two level Junior Suite had a king bed, sofa bed and 1.5 baths. They also have very nice deluxe rooms with private terrace, as well as apartments. Well within your price range. Great location for walking to everything.
