Hi All
Im trying to put together a trip next May (2017) for approximately 10 to 12 people for a couple of weeks somewhere along the Amalfi Coast. We are looking to rent a Villa (if thats possible) to accommodate that many people. I don't know where we should be looking or how much we should expect to pay. The group is older (but still quite mobile).
We would like reasonable access to day trips to Naples, Capri, etc. I have checked out some of the villas around Positano but am wondering if you guys have better ideas for locations and any suggestion for who to contact to lease them.
We are just getting into this so its ALL flexible at this point. Any and all suggestions as to where to stay, go or see would REALLY be appreciated. The trip will probably be the first 2 weeks of May next year. Thanks for your help and suggestions.

You need to work on this right away. Villas, especially the bigger ones, get booked up a year ahead or more. Is everybody committed? Have they paid money up front? You will need to put a deposit on such a villa and probably pay in full before you get there.

My (not terribly informed) impression is there are few villas that large around the Amalfi coast. Try the Sorrento area.

Summerinitaly is a good source. As a start, I would go there or to VRBO.com. Use the search boxes to plug in different towns and the number of people who need accommodations, and see what comes up. That'll at least give you an idea of what's available, what it will cost, and where the locations are. If something comes up on VRBO or Summer, you can contact the owner/leasing agent..

My guess is you're going to get a wide range in costs for something that size, from maybe $500 to $5000/nt.

Can you clarify what "access" to day trips? You mean public transportation? That's limited in many of the AC towns, which is why some people recommend Sorrento, which has a train station.

Have a look at Owners direct and Holiday lettings. During my research I came across quite a few places that accommodate a lot of people. We stayed in Maiori last October and found that a non-touristy place with a lovely waterfront and easy bus and ferry access to Amalfi, Capri and Salerno. Something there or nearby Minori (very close to Ravello) would probably be more reasonable than Positano or Amalfi itself. Maiori is mostly on the level which might suit the older people better. Has a lovely long beach and lots of very nice restaurants. Perhaps try two villas - each one for a week. You could do the Maiori end of the coast for the first week and then the Sorrento end for the second. You will get to see more that way. Good luck.

I would choose a town which has both ferry and bus transport. Buses stop at all the towns along the coastal road but ferries don't. Timetables for both are available online. The buses can be very busy so if there is a large group travelling, I recommend trying to use the buses early or late in the day where convenient, just to make for a more pleasant journey and occasionally so you can actually all get on the bus. airbnb also has heaps of accommodation listings in the area. Lovely idea to spend a couple of weeks with friends in a beautiful place.

I would definitely start looking seriously now. One factor to consider is that many of the larger villas are meant for families with kids and may have several bedrooms with either bunk beds or single beds - which your group may not find comfortable. Also look carefully at the number of baths (one benefit of hotels is a bath for every2 people.)
