Tween Paris and Normandy

We are travelling with our pre-teen son from Paris to Normandy by car and want to spend a night on the road both going and returning. Any recommendations for interesting "hamlets" with sights and nice hotels about half way between each (such as Rouen).
Thanks!

After reading Underhill's report about spending the night at Les Andelys on the way to Normandy, our foursome will
stay at her recommended La Chaine d'Or. It's location along the Seine looks idyllic on the website. www.lachainedor.com There is a nearby castle that is reportedly worth a visit.
Happy travels!

Giverny is not half way to the coast but it is on the way and it would be a lovely place to spend a night and part of a day to visit Monet's house and gardens.

Well, Rouen isn't a "hamlet," but it's a wonderful town with plenty of interesting sites, plus great restaurants. It would be my choice.

FWIW I have also booked a night at Chain d'Or on Underhill's recommendation. If you are reading this, I hope the shoulder/collarbone ? is healing fine.

Hard choices so many places. I don't stay in chateaus prefer B&Bs, auberge-fermes, maison D'Hotes, and you can find them on the tourist office sights.
I love Honfluer, Rouen, Trouville, Fourges, Les Andelys on the seine is very special. Nancy, you did not mention the month. Beach weather may be a draw for your son.

the humerus is mending slowly but not too painfully; new x-rays next week. thanks for your concern.

we loved les andelys and hope everyone else does too. don't forget to go to lyon-la-foret on the way to rourn--charming village, lots of flowers. several abbeys are nearby also.
