I enjoy staying at Fonte Bertusi, just outside of Pienza. Wonderful hosts and beautiful views-

No a/c, but I have never found it neccesary. The apartments stay cool all day and night.

We were there in late June of '06 & didn't need air conditioning. However, if your husband needs it - get it & you can always turn it off. As you get into July, you'll probably have it on. Our frind's place in San Quirico had walls about 5 feet thick - so they didn't need AC unless it got real hot in late July or August - which is a time they chose not to be there anyway.

I spent a week last summer in Tuscany with daytime highs 104 degrees. We had no a/c and didn't need it either. Thick stone walls, cool nights and ceiling fans were sufficient.

As long as we closed the shutters & windows inside temps remained comfortable, even during the heat of the afternoon.

Zoecat,

Fonte Bertusi look wonderful! I don'thave a trip to Tuscany planned in the near future, but it makes me want to leave tomorrow! I added it to my favorites. Which apartments have you stayed in?

Hi Dayle,

I have stayed at Fonte Bertusi twice- once in il Cipresso and once in il Mandorlo. Both are very nice.

Cipresso has a large patio and faces southeast, overlooking beautiful fields.

Mandorlo also has a patio, but smaller. It faces southwest and the pool. It has a larger bedroom and a better shower. Because I liked Mandorlo better, I'll be staying in Mandorlo again this May.

Fonte Bertusi is really a unique and special place to stay. The location could not be better.

I hope this helps!

What a great thread this is! I have Googled every accommodation you have mentioned and they all look great. When I have more information, I'll post what I've found.
I'm planning a trip to Tuscany this summer and I'm slightly overwhelmed at the wealth of options available! Thanks to everyone for sharing your knowledge with us.

Cyber

If you're going this summer - I wouldn't wait any longer to secure accommodations.

Stu,

Thanks for the sound advice. I have been busily contacting many places, and I'm going to start a new post to ask for help choosing from what is available.
